Where is it? Is there anybody out there who truly feels the Treo is superior to the 7135? Why hasn't there even been an announcement of a phone coming soon that would be a "7135 killer"? I don't mean some foreign phone that you can only buy in Japan or Europe. Isn't there anything on the horizon for U.S. networks that would make me decide to dump Verizon just to get it?
I've had the Treo 600 for only 5 days now, and I'd have to say I like it better.
I miss the flip style. However, with the 5 way jog button, I don't really need to use the stylus much to navigate and use applications. Because I don't need to touch the screen much, I can leave the phone in a case with a thick vinyl window, and that protects the screen.
The little qwerty keyboard takes some getting used to. I still prefer Grafitti. Yes, even Grafitti 2 ! . For large amounts of data, I use my laptop and then hotsynch the handheld. I've been doing that since my Palm IIIxe.
I run most of my applications from the SD card, and the speed of the Treo blows the 7135 away.
Surfing the net from the phone, either using the phone browser (looks like Blazer, but it's in ROM) and using the phone as a modem for my laptop also blows the 7135 away. To me, this means that the processor speed is the rate limiting step, not the OTA data transfer.
Another point, the caller ID category ring works without having one or two default rings. AND the caller ID has a picture associated with it. The Treo incoming call screen also has an "ignore" option that allows you to send the call directly to voicemail. This may seem unimportant to some, but I have an exwife...........
Many people have complained about the 7135 stability. I had a few hard resets on my 7135, but it was only after installing some new program. On the third day, the Treo would automatically reset every time I got an incoming call. Crashpro told me it was due to a program I had installed. So, you can see, stability is just a matter of finding which programs play well together no matter which platform you choose.
I desperately miss voice dialing, but there is an app that I can install on the Treo to allow for that. I'll try that just as soon as I'm sure my current build is stable.
In short, the 7135 is a good converged device. The Treo is better.

The specs look interesting, but this is a GSM phone. It won't work on Verizon's network - you'll have to switch away from the CDMA technology used by Verizon/Sprint/Alltel, etc.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong . . .
CDMA is still the biggest cell technology in the US. It is big in Asia, and it is growing in Europe.
GSM is big in Europe, and growing in the US (AT&T seems to be putting their development into GSM. Are they expanding their TDMA network at all?)
Is it coming down to CDMA vs GSM? Or are there other international network technologies still out there?
Thanks!

(7135 to Treo 650 conversion)
I'm just waiting (like just about everyone else) for the Treo 650 on Verizon. Though the web is rife with rumor, speculation, and inuendo, I haven't been able to find out anything resembling fact.
I just called Verizon Data Services, as my 7135 wouldn't reboot. Black screen, no response, nothing, While on hold, I held the reset button in for 1 minute, it sprang back to life. After a re-sync to restore it, everything is fine again.
Anyhow . . . .
The tech told me that they just had a meeting regarding the Treo 650, and that it is now in formal testing phase. I know it's not much, but it's the first time anyone at VZW has acknowledged anything about the 650. He seemed to think it wouldn't be too much longer 'til release (if approved).
Was complaining to a Verizon rep today about my 7135. (I have become thoroughly disenchanted. But like democracy, the 7135 is the best there is for now, no matter how much it sucks.)
He confirmed that the Treo 650 is going to be on Verizon and gave me a site where they give you the opp to be notified by email -- http://www.vzwshop.com/treoinfo/
Since I was ordering my FOURTH replacement phone, I really think I'm switching.

HOLY SHAMOLY!!!! This appears to be the first OFFICIAL indication that the 650 is indeed coming to Verizon. I seriously CAN'T believe it - I was afraid us poor VZW customers might never see the thing.
There is no doubt that I'll be switching as soon as I hear that the 650 is available. I've loved my 7135, but the battery life is in the dumper, and I'm tired of waiting for the processor to work through my requests. The King is dead - LONG LIVE THE KING!
Hmmmmm - Did anybody else notice this little piece of text on the Verizon announcment:
you can send and receive email directly from your Smartphone and even synchronize your email with most POP3 and IMAP email accounts when you subscribe to a PDA/Smartphone plan.
To me - it means no more email unless you are paying $45/month for a data plan. I hope I'm wrong.

(7135 to Treo 650 conversion)
I currently use a Kyocera 7135 and have been waiting anxiously for the next generation phone that would best the 7135. From my readings on the Treo 650, it appears that my wait will be over when the Treo works with Verizon.
Please tell me if these points are correct:
1. The Treo can be used as a speakerphone with voice activated dialing with the VoiceSignal software. You can actually dial speaking the person's name or actually saying the phone number that you would like to call.
2. With Blueberry technology, I could buy the Parrot CK3100 carkit and use the Voicesignal software in the car without ever having to plug my phone in anywhere -- it would all be done wirelessly.
3. The Treo is 10x faster than the 7135.
4. The Treo screen is 320x320-- MUCH better and sharper than the 7135.
5. The battery lasts much longer than the 7135
6. Newer operating system
7. Verizon doesn't even carry the 7135 anymore
The only downside to the Treo is that it doesn't have the clamshell design that the 7135 has. But considering all of the benefits, I feel that I can definitely live without the clamshell.
Does anyone agree or disagree with these conclusions?
I am slowly and painfully coming to the same conclusion. Giving up the clamshell is really going to hurt, but I really don't see that there is much choice.
I just talked to a helpful rep at Kyocera right now:
"-are you guys working on something new to replace the 7135?
-I think something is in the work right now, they don't tell us everything.. "
I cross my fingers.
Me too Kat. Don't get me wrong. I would love it if they would replace and upgrade the 7135. If it were imminent, I would not even consider moving to another phone. It just seems that nothing is happening and that even if one were to be announced at this point it would not be on the shelves until it might be too late.
