Re: Connectivity questions

Hi! My 7135 is in the mail and I have a question about data connectivity and Verizon.
I live in a rural area and my phone is in the extended network when I'm there. I work in a small city and I'm on the Verizon network there. I called Verizon and they tell me I need to add a $49/mo data plan to my $40 voice plan to use my smartphone on the net. She said I cannot use my pop3 email if I only subscribe to the Mobile Web.
I would not be using data on the phone while I'm at home or work. I have computers, there. I'm thinking I would mostly use it in between. She said there is a pay per kilobyte program - will that quickly get out of hand?
Also, if I'm in the extended network will I be able to use my phone as a dial-up modem? I suppose then I really need to be on a data plan - correct?
Thanks! Kim

Verizon has started requiring some sort of data plan on PDA phones.
What I did, that works great for me, is had them put me on the "Pay as you go" plan, and simply use their slower "Quick 2 Net" service, which just uses your minutes, instead of per kilobyte of data.
Honestly, due to the limitations of the 7135 hardware, you won't be able to tell much difference between their 1xRTT (fast) data and QNC (slow) data connections. You just need to be sure to set up QNC correctly, and occasionally check your account to make sure you're not inadvertantly using 1xRTT data.
Do a search of the forum, there are instructions on how to set this up...QNC usually works in "Extended Network" areas.
