Unexpected restores on HotSync to Mac?

I've had this problem ever since I've had the 7135 (I'm on my 3rd one in 3 months).

Every so often, when I go to sync the 7135 to my Mac iBook G4 running OS 10.3.7, Palm HotSync will start to "restore" from backup, though all of that stuff is already on the 7135 and working fine.
When the restore process gets to the files for
WordComp, the 7135 experiences a fatal exception requiring (soft) reset. I can then only prevent this from recurring by deleting all files from the Home/Documents/Palm/Users/Me/Backup folder, then syncing and backing up the whole device again. Otherwise it will keep trying to install the backed up files and crash before HotSync can be completed. The whole process ends up eating up half an hour.

Anyone have any idea why this might be happening and how to prevent it?

Perhaps you have your Palm Desktop software system conduit set the wrong way. It should be set to "handheld overwrites desktop".

On my Mac Palm HotSync v 3.0.0 the conduit setting options for the Backup conduit are "Backup", "Restore from Backup", or "Do Nothing". I have it set on "Backup" as default, yet it starts restoring unexpectedly.

Is that the most current version of Palm Desktop software? If not, update it. What other conduits do you have?
