Treo 650 prob 6 mos . . .

At a Verizon store in Albany NY today as I needed to swap out for the 3rd or 4th time past year my 7135. This time my "0" number stopped working. Also had a blank screen when opening clamshell (from the last refurb) until you closed it about 1/4 of an inch, but I've learned to live with that one.
So another wasted trip, store does not carry them anymore and said to call the 800 # and they will send a refurb out tomorrow.
I'm tired of the 7135 and its quirks. I held the Treo 600 and was surprised how really small it actually is . . . I inquired about how long it's been out and they said there is a Treo 650 already out at Sprint but they have a lock on it for 6 mos so I'd have to wait till Verizons stocks them now SIGH . . . Seems like I went through the same thing upgrading from the 6035!
I think I might jump ship to the Treo 650. Always liked the 7135 and it's clamshell design along with the graffiti but seems things are evolving away from Palms graffiti anyway. I would also like to use a blue-tooth wireless headset and even the 600's screen seems way ahead of the 7135's low contrast and brightness design. I figure every thing's a trade off and I'd be happy not to have wait another two years for Kyocera to roll out an upgraded 7135 as from experience it will probably be just as clunky and I'm sure very buggy as this model has always been for me. I lived with it up to now, but I really can't wait to dump Kyocera. Appears Verizon is too.

You might want to read this first.

Granted, you're talking about the 650 whereas I was talking about the 600, but I bet some of my complaints still apply to the 650 as well.

Also note that there is an issue with Treo 650 memory because of a stupid engineering mistake by Palm.

You might also want to read this, this, and this.

Thx Paul

I'll read all. Of course what holds me back is the exposed screen as I still like the clamshell design over the bar.
The new 7135 came today as promised. Still can't beat Verizons service or coverage at least where I travel. New one came with the slightly larger antenna which on the last refurb I got I swapped out the smaller antenna. I should have kept it the last time cause now I have two bars in my house where the small antenna causes me to have to go and talk out on the porch(it was 4 degrees outside here on Mon.)
New phone is actually a brand new one (I received scratched ones before and sent em back).
So I'll hang in there awhile longer anyway as I have some months to go before Verizon gets the Treo 650 in.
Sure I know they have problems too but for about a $700 investment (with accessor.) I still feel Kyo has been to slow to respond to the 7135's all too many issues. I would like to unload the phone and accessories before they are worthless. I have found if you swap a phone within two years you can recover at least 1/2 your investment to buy another brand or a newer model with.
Thx again for your input.
Maybe Treo will have solved some of their issues before I ponder a switch to the Treo 650.
didn't Robert (the moderator) switch to a Treo 600, I wonder how happy he is with it over the 7135?

Read all links . . .

Paul, you're right about the 600 verses the 650. I would have never gone for the 600. But the 650 piques my interest as they have addressed some of the 600's issues with the 650 and the other problems mentioned seem to be software related issues that will probably be addressed by the time Verizons gets it. We had to wait many months for Kyo to address issues like the contrast bug.
I might jump just for the Blue tooth features and wireless net access. Many hotels I use now have free wireless access. How cool would that be not to have to lug a notebook around for traveling just to access the net in a hotel wireless without using minutes up. I think the 650 now has card storage like the 7135 and a removable battery which are two must haves for me. Don't know if they moved the head phone jack yet. And I too can't believe no cradle for that price! Maybe that will change too.
Oh ya . . . I don't care about snapping pictures with a phone but now downloading a full DVD movie to a 650 and watching on a plane with headphones is a not too shabby feature.
