Low speed internet connections, can they be better??

Okay, to make a short story long.............never mind, I wil make it short.

I setup billpay for verizon on home phone. Funds got sent to wrong account. Verizon cut off my phone for non payment (gave the basterds 1,000).........oh well. Until they get it figured out, I am without normal Internet connection for 2-3 weeks.

I decide to use my cell phone through the computer. I am hooked up writing you this message and surfing, but at 14kbs, at best.

I have always heard others getting way better connection speeds. I believe I have done all that I can to get the correct setup

From all that have great connections, or know the ins and outs of hooking your phone to the computer, what can I do to make sure I have the fastest speed? Gotta be something I can do to get better speeds?????? Connection "says" I am hooked up on a 28k speed connection but thats not what I am actually getting.

Thanks

You are using a circuit switched connection (Quick to Net or QNC). The speed will be a constant 14.4Kb/s. The faster connection is packet switched and requires that you have a National Access plan or the National Access *feature* on your AC plan. Look at your bill or on the web page under the services section. Look for "NA". With a packet switched connection, using your phone as a modem, you should be able to get 80Kb/s and upwards.

Go to Palm Preferences, Network, and under Service there should be a selection for Express Network (1XRTT). Try that.

I just called Verizon to add this "feature". They said it was incompatible with Wireless Sync, nd they could not add it.

Fastest speed I ever get using the 7135 as a modem is 28.8K.

Is anyone getting anything faster than that out there?

I thought that 28.8k was the max using Express Network, with the 7135 as a modem.

I also did not think that there is no good way to measure the stand-alone handheld wireless data transfer speed.

update--I just went to a site:

www.2wire.com

and selected the "Speed Meter", and despite the fact that my little Connection icon claims to be connected at 28.8, the Speed Meter says 86.8!

Verizon "Quick 2 Net" maxes out at 14.4 Kbps. Their Express Network service can burst up to 144 Kbps (10x faster). Whenever I've used my 7135 as a modem for my laptop, I've typically averaged about 95 Kbps.
