Unstable 7135 questions

Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum (it's great), and a relatively new 7135 user. I got my phone as a hand-me-down to my boss (he upgraded to a t600). Truth be told, I've been having some problems with it, and am hoping you folks can provide advice.

It's been quite unstable. Sometimes, if the phone rings, I press the talk button and it crashes, and won't come on without resetting. Or, I'll close the flip cover, and it will crash. Often, it keeps the data, but at least 1 out of 5 times, it reverts to factory settings. And, instability is not fixed even if I run it without any further applications loaded, i.e. in factory-clean mode.

It kind of seems like a hardware issue, but it has also crashed even while in the cradle, and being used gently, suggesting it's a software problem, too. But I don't know.

We sent it back to Bell, who apparently sent it to Kyocera. Five weeks later, it came back "fixed", and the problems continue at the same pace. Like, one in four usage sessions results in a crash. Can any of you please help?

Thanks in advance, Raymond

Most often it's a software conflict. Are you running or have you installed any 3rd party apps? Avantgo for example?

Thanks for the speedy answer, Quick. In fact, I've tried using it even after a hard reset, i.e. with all 3rd party stuff removed, and it's still unstable.

Any further thoughts?

Try the "crash reset":
1. Battery out
2. hold down reset button for more than one minute
3. Battery back in
4. Hard reset

If this does not improve your stability, especially with only factory apps, then I would say your 7135 is broken like my 2nd one was. First one got the dreaded SRCP failure. 2nd one seemed ok for a few weeks then started having a problem similar to the one you describe, crashing on phone answer or even just sitting in my pocket doing nothing. Now on third one for the past week. Rock stable so far.

I only have praise for Verizon's customer service in regards to this obviously problematic model. Love the phone, as long as it works. Looking forward to the Samsung i530. (And if Verizon buys Sprint, we might be able to get one sooner.)

If Verizon buys Sprint...

I've never heard that one. Is that a rumor going around or just your hope?

Nextel is buying Sprint to make them the third largest cellular carrier.. At least that's what was reported last night on cable news.
