Ringer Does Not Work

Hey guys and girls, this is my first post here but I've been coming here on and off for the past month or so to find answers to my problems i've had from time to time with my 7135. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a past thread that involved the problem I am now having.

About two weeks ago, the ringer on my 7135 quit working. Everytime someone called, the phone would vibrate first, and then when it was supposed to ring it was just silent. I made sure all the options that would turn off the ringer were disabled, and it still does not ring. This is obviously frustrating, because i only know i'm getting a call when the phone is in my pocket.

However, a few nights ago I got a call during the night when the phone was on the cradle, and the ringer worked! It is the only time that it has worked to my knowledge over the past few weeks.

I am thinking about taking it back to verizon and getting them to look at it, but i know how they are and wanted to see if there was perhaps something i was overlooking before i did that.

Has anyone else had this problem?

And by the way, I put on a new faceplate for it when i got it, but the ringer worked fine for weeks after I installed it.

Can anybody help?

First of all, check to see if your phone is in silent mode. Hold the volume up button for about 3 seconds.

If that doesn't fix it, then soft reset it.

If that doesn't work, then hotsync, hard reset, and hotsync again.

If you jump into the Incoming Calls section of Phone Preferences, it will play a preview for the ringer if you switch the Ringer Type in there, so just test it there if you don't want to bother calling the 7135 each time.

Send a message via AIM to MGuzzy

Go to the Phone Prefs and check the settings under incoming calls. Also under Phone Alerts make sure the setting for Silence All is set for Normal Sounds. My guess is that you may have that set to Vibrate Only.

Thanks for the response, I have tried both of your suggestions and none of them worked. Also, hard and soft resets do not fix the problem. I am convinced that it is probably a hardware problem. Any other suggestions?

I would hard reset without hotsyncing afterwards. Then call you're phone. If it still doesn't ring, then I'd say you have a hardware problem.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot.

Figured out what the problem was!

On the faceplate i put on there a few weeks ago, one of the tabs that was holding it on there had broken and it wasnt being held on there securely, and somehow the speaker was losing its connection.

When my phone "rings" if i push down on the cover the speaker works! when i let off of it it quits working. So i'm just going to put the stock cover back on and hopefully that will fix the problem for good. I'll let you all know.
