Antennas, data plans and analog signals

This could get complicated, but I'll try not to overload it. Here's the deal: Got a used 7135 from eBay. It arrived the day after Thanskgiving. Took it right to my local VZW store. First thing, they said it couldn't be activated since it required a data plan and I was on pay-as-you-go. I explained that (1) I didn't use Mobile Web and (2) the store manager I'd originally asked said there would be no problem bringing the phone on line. They sent me over to CS, techie wired the phone w/my number, good to go. But something strange happened slowly. At first, I thought it odd that the antenna didn't seem to retract fully. Today, I noticed it was even further out. Screwed it back down. Fully seated now. However, I'm stuck w/an analog signal. Can't figure out why. Called VZW techsport, got a very nice, young lady who tried to talk me through some stuff. Got the data plan excuse again; advised her it had been working just fine for the last 10 days w/o one. Next thing I got was that, since I'm near large bodies of water (home near Susquehanna River, office near Chesapeake Bay), the water screws with the signals. News to me, but I still had digital signals last week.

Any guesses as to what's going on here with the signal? or how I can keep the antenna from unscrewing itself from the phone?

Oh, and has anyone actually found the KWPST lately? It's not coming up for me anywhere, and I've searched beaucoup FTP sites and FTP search engines.

TIA.

On your 7135, start up the "Prefs Phone" application. Go to the "Phone Service" section by using the drop-down gadget in the upper-right corner of the screen. Check the "Digital/Analog" setting, which should be the fourth one down on the screen. It should be set to either "Automatic" or "Digital Only" depending on your preference. Try "Digital Only" to force it into digital and see if that helps.

Kyocera closely guards the KWPST software. So, it's very hard to find.

analog

I had same problem and they replaced phone. It would get a digital signal and then go to analog. Could never force it to stay digital even changing the settings.

I've had the same problem and if I take the battery out and put it right back in it seems to fix it. Don't ask me why.

Checked the prefs setting: It was on auto, I forced it to digital and the phone couldn't find anything. I'm sitting at home now w/the phone in the sync cradle beside the computer, and in the brief time I've been on line I've watched the phone go from analog to digital to searching to digital. I'm beginning to think that, despite what the coverage maps tell them, VZW's having some propagation problems today.

And if the KWPST is on so short a leash that no one wants to talk about it (as evidenced by many other threads), I guess I'm stuck hoping my local techdroids know what the score is and are more competent than the average bear.

Thanks one and all.

Try updating your roam list. *228, option 2.
Possibly your phone is favoring a strong analog signal over a weak digital one, so definitely keep it in Digital Only mode. Try removing the antenna completely, see if there is any damage to it...
You can pick up a replacement antenna from the kyocera accessory store for like 10 bucks.
