I just upgraded my 6035 (Sprint) to a 7135 (Verizon). I have everything installed and working well except Eudora mail. I can't seem to send or receive mail. Whenever I try I get "Authentication failure".
I'm trying to access my Comcast mail. I was able to do it fine on my 6035 and I copied all the settings exactly from Eudora mail on the 6035 to Eudora mail on the 7135. But no go.
I found some threads here on Comcast mail and I realize that trying to access the Comcast SMTP server from the 7135 may not work (although it did on my 6035). But I also tried using smtp.vzwmail.net as some have suggested and got the same error. I then tried another POP3 account I have with another ISP and same thing. So it seems like a global problem and not account specific.
By the way, I'm using a QNC connection. I don't have Express Network enabled on my phone. And I'm able to connect and browse the web with 4 different browsers. It's just mail that doesn't work.
One other thing. When I got the new phone, I didn't try to sync with the data etc. from the old phone. I installed everything fresh.
I know I had the same sort of issue when I upgraded to the 7135 from the 6035. I eventually found out the right combination of settings.
In Eudora, go in under Options -> Accounts and click the account you want to check. Go to the Security tab. What works for me is having Incoming authentication set to "Best Available" and SSL to "None."
In the Outgoing server section, I have the Authentication set to "Best Available" and "Same As Incoming. SSL set to "None".
There's one other setting - "CHAP Authentication" - that I had to change, and if memory serves <i> that</> is the magic setting that made everything work. Try as I might, I can't find where that setting is right now. But if I do, I'll post you back.
I hope this helps!

Those are the settings I had except for SSL, which was set to Alternate Port. That's how it was on my 6035. I tried changing it to None, but that didn't help.
I also looked around fora "CHAP Authentication" setting, but didn't find it either.
In Eudora, go to Options-->Network Preferences, and make sure the service is set to QNC. Hit connect on that screen to make sure it connects properly.
If it connects fine to QNC but still won't work with any mail server, then I would hard reset the 7135(make sure to Hotsync first), manually enter the Eudora account info again, and then try again.
Thanks for pointing out where the Chap setting was...mine is set to "Disabled" as well. I don't have any other ideas, other than the hard reset that Genji suggested. (And don't forget to HotSync before you do!)
Have you tried dialing *228 to get software updates and see if that resolves the problem? I'd be curious to know what your current software version is. (It's under "Phone Info" and select "Software" from the upper right drop-down menu)

I tried what you suggested. I connected fine with QNC. But after doing the hard reset, I still get the authentication failure. I tried 2 different ISPs.
It connects successfully. After dialing and establishing the phone connection, it pops up a little Checking Mail window. Underneath the horizontal progress bar, it displays the following series of messages:
Finding server address
Connecting
Securing connection
Connected, negotiating
Loggining in
Login failed
And then it pops up an error window with the Authentication Failed message.
If it were my account, I'd suspect that I'd entered the password incorrectly. I'm sure you've checked that a bazillion times over, so I'm not sure what else to suggest.
You're not logged into that account on another machine at the same time, are you?
Suitably puzzled,

I thought I would again try Genji's suggestion of redoing the settings after resetting. But this time I deleted all the accounts and created a new one fresh. I also used the wizard this time instead of advanced. I left the security settings at the defaults -- basically the same as before but with SSL set to If Available.
I then tried to check mail and it worked the first time. I can also send no problem.
