FYI...If you are paying for product guard / insurance on the Kyocera 7135 from Alltel you should immediately request a refund since the purchase date. The insurance will not pay for replacement/repair if the phone is lost/stolen/damaged/etc...This can be verified by contacting 800-255-8351 Alltel's Customer Service; most local offices are not aware of this policy.
My wife just got nailed on this one. The phone's 6 weeks old and out of warranty with Alltel. The phone fails to take a charge. She told them that she has insurance. They responded, "Gee wiz, golly gosh, we don't offer insurance on that unit. We'll be happy to refund your $3.99 that you paid for insurance on your last bill but you're on your own for the repair."
That's like paying your $500 premium on your new car and getting into a wreck. The repairs cost $20,000 so the insurance company refunds your premium instead of paying the claim. What's going on here! It seems like Alltel should be on the hook for fraud.
My wife appropriately responded that she would not have bought the phone had the insurance not been available. They agreed to take the phone back. Based on prior experiences it will take about 6 phone calls and two billing cycles to get all the credits that we are due. Meanwhile, my wife moved back into her 4 year old Palm M105.
Is there an insurance regulatory agency with jurisdiction in this matter? Or should the Ohio Attorney General be contacted.?
