I'm a diehard Kyo user (had the 6035 the week it came out, then salivated over the 7135 till the day it came out...) but due to overall slowness and dissatisfaction (i've replaced the unit 3 times for various reasons), i think i wanna hop to the Treo600 now that it's out and about.....
But my only deciding factor is the data plans....we know that sprint kicks Verizon butt when it comes to the pricing of the plan, and i remember ppl on here who were disappointed when the Kyo came out, and they hooked it up to their laptop and were very disappointed with the speeds. I've also read that Sprint users are very happy with the speeds on their network....via phone, laptop, or otherwise....
So I guess my question is: I'm in the market for a laptop soon, and i want to have the fastest cheapest internet possible for the phone. does anyone think it would be worth it to jump ship to sprint for this reason? Or is the treo on the VZW network capabale of everything the 7135 wasnt? I have no real reason to leave VZW other than the crappy price of their unlimited data plan and its "slowness" with the 7135. Thoughts anyone? Thanks!!
Personally, I think that even with the Treo you'll still be subject to verizon's network.
That being said, you may experience some speed increase over the Kyo just due to processing power alone. I have actually been thinking the same thing so let us all know what happens!
Does anyone else out there have any hard data to support my theory on Treo's speed on a verizon network?
@ sh9854,
I don't have any speed problems using my 7135 as a modem for my laptop. I regularly get 95 Kbps transfers on average which are quite a bit faster than a 56K modem. I wonder what could be causing your problems?
If I use my 7135 hooked up to my laptop I do get better than 56k performance but the processor on the actual phone is so slow, trying to do web stuff on the phone itself is SO painful.
The treo is so much better at this task.
I am (was) also a die hard 7135 fan, got it the day it came out...etc but I have replaced the phone 4 times and got very frustrated with how slow the phone is. I have done all the little tricks but its still annoying.
Sorry Kyocera... im also going Trio.
I like the Kyocera design but is just not working as well as I would like a $500 phone to work.
Ever notice that the min. you mention something negative about the Kyo 7135 someone like silver dragon will quickly defend the Kyo??
It is SOOO Annoying. I mean there are major problems with the Kyo. They put out an bad product. When you have as many of us that have had to do swaps that is a PROBLEM.
So many LEMMINGS!! So little time.. The treo is a well thought out 2nd Generation product. It is just better.
So when someone has somthing negative about the stupid phone, don't waste space by printing a post that says that you don't have that problem.. Because... EVERYONE HAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS PHONE..

I'm sorry, I didn't get your qualifications?

How many would that be? and who is "us"? Please let us know what percentage of those sold have been swapped?

Thank you. I hadn't realized I was a lemming before.

"EVERYONE"? Sorry for wasting space but as a lemming I feel compelled to do so.
I was also one of the first 7135 users and have switched to VZ Treo. I love it. FAST, stable so far, bright, light to carry, fits great in proclip holster, love the keyboard (never thought i would).
Well, as a card-carrying member of "everyone," (not sure about the lemming part!) I can truthfully say that I have been happy with my 7135 from the day I got it. No problems - and I have pushed it with lots of apps (including AvantGo).
Had my 7135 since Dec. '02 and while I've pushed it and had my share of soft resets I've been thrilled with the phone from Day 1 and am not yet convinced the Treo 600 is enough of a "Trade Up" to justify the expense; the rumored Treo "ACE" would be a different matter!

I almost TA! I may try out the T600 but will be looking forward to the rumored "ACE" since there are many features that I enjoy with the 7135 missing from the T600.

There is no PERFECT phone for EVERYONE. It all depends on what is important to you. Some people have never had problems with the 7135. My brother-in-law is one of them. I am not. However, after having this phone for over a year and a half, I am happy to report that its benefits outweighs the problems I've had.
(Note: Calling people who speak highly of the 7135 "lemmings" -- whatever that is -- should not deter people from writing the truth.)
Like "Lemons" to the sea, I'll follow everybody... I've had no problems with my 7135 in the year and a half I've had it.... Just one hard reset, I think it was a low battery related...

I use to be one of the lucky ones where my phone nver had a problem. Now, I am getting some hard resets and other annoying glitches. Any one know why? How often should one replace the battery?
I don't think anyone needs to feel guilty for defending the 7135, or for pointing out its flaws. One of the reasons I enjoy this group so much is that it is actually quite balanced.
Sure there are those who rave and rave (and why not, it's an expensive piece of equipment. Some of us paid nearly $700.00 to own a 7135 if not more, I think that gives one the right to rave when it does what you want it to lol).
I'm glad some folks are finding the new Treo works for them, no need to flame anyone about it, especially in a 7135 forum.
well said NuHippie...
I'm happy with my 7135, and will likely wait for the next significant jump in technology before I switch (or a when my phone dies, hopefully after my NE2 is good)

I have had my share of good stretches as well as bad. I just recently underwent my second hard reset followed by selective reloading of applications (i.e. "rebuilding the phone from scratch" even though I've got BB ... I even reformatted the SD Card this time). I decided to basically only put back programs that I use "regularly." So far, so good. Even when the phone gets into a stretch of soft resets, it's still worth it to me. I will admit, however, that I DO NOT like the stretches of unexpected hard resets.
Both the Treo and the Kyo have their good and bad points. A forum on the Treo site referred to us folks here at pdaPhoneHome as on the "bleeding edge" of technology. Let's face it, we are pushing the limits of these devices, so you can expect a few problems. I know someone with a Kyo who hardly uses it for anything but phone and light organizer duty with no problems. But I personally have spells of soft resets once in a while, and only a FEW hard resets. With BackupBuddy, I'm up again in ~10 minutes.
SO there you have it. Now for the important stuff. Can any of you Kyo-Treo switchers comment on the "Free Trade In from Verizon" deal? Is there any truth to that? If so what are the circumstances to be in the running for one?
I have my Treo 600 now and frankly, I'm regretting my decision to jump so quickly. I use Lotus Domino and my 7135 was working beautifully with Wireless Sync. The T600 does not. It only syncs Mail -- no PIM data.
Unfortunately, no one at VZW has experience with Lotus Domino. I've spent 10 hours on the phone with the technicians. I've had several hard and soft resets and multiple installs of the software and they have not been able to resolve the problem.
Also, data entry is unpleasant for me. I'd like the option of using graffiti AND the keyboard. I had many shortcuts and text entry assisting programs so I text entry was easy with the 7135. (I'll have to look into 3rd party software to solve that problem.)
If I knew that there would be this much difficulty, I'd wait until a phone came out with MORE features missing from the 7135. More memory, a faster processor, and OS5 (which does away with some really nice hacks) does not appear to be worth the pain of transition.
