Unhappy Software Update, PRL update, no service, only 'searching...'

Hello.

I first got my phone about 5 months ago (for $30.00). It was an old broken banged up Verizon model. It constantly beeped when charging, so I had them give me a different one.

The one that I have now was originally an Alltel phone. It has been totally unreliable & crash prone, so I upgraded it up to 29/44 myself with the KWPST.

After I upgraded the firmware & ROM software, I upgraded my roaming list (*228,,2)

Before the PRL update I had PRL Version: 30203
After the PRL update I still had a 30*** PRL #

After the update, I could no longer get any kind of signal at all. I switched the roaming option using KWPST to 'Automatic B' & after that I could only get the flashing R extended verizon roaming deally.

So, I downgraded my PRL back to the one I had before the update & everything is working OK again.

My question is this: what the heck?

* Is there any was to upgrade my PRL without losing all signal?
* Is there any way to get a PRL data file that is recent?
* Is there any secret button somwehere that will make this thing work perfectly?
* Do I need to have an ERI file in order to update my PRL to the latest version?
* Does it matter that my Verizon plan used to be a local only plan that was recently updated to Americas Choice?

Other than that, I like this phone quite a bit. I actually would prefer to have the 5-way Pad deal & the driver that the TREO 600 uses to control almost everything without getting your grubby mits on the screen (or, bob forbid, actually using 2 hands like a cave-man).

LaptopHack helps fill the void of no 5-way pad. but, I still dream of a day when I can use my address & to-do hard-buttons as left & right buttons instead (and switch the OK button to just insert an ENTER character, wich would work quite nicely with lapTopHack)

I actually do prefer the Kyo7135 to the TREO600 mearly because with the Kyo being 4.* ROM, I can still use all my pimped-out background-images & carp like that.
I don't mind having a pre-historic processor & a battery battery with the life span of a fruit-fly. I don't care if kinoma player sounds like it's got terretz syndrome & I can't play any of the snazzy OS 5.x games & carp. I don't even care that I get a practacally use-less number-keypad twice the site of the TREO600's full querty. I don't mind all of this (& more!) because I can have an aqua-blue background image in amlost every application! (or, atlease, this is what I tell myself at night to keep from dampening my pillow with my tears)

The fact that I've spent about $75 on my Phone & all of it's paraphanalia doesn't hurn, either. <evil-grin>

oh, right... I forgot about my problem... uh... yeah! PRLs WOOHOO!!!
