My 7135 keeps switching itself to "No Roaming"

Has anyone seen this before? My 7135 keeps switching itself to "No Roaming" all on its own. I have to change it back to "Automatic" all the time and its getting very annoying. I switched to "No Roaming" on purpose a few weeks ago because I was trying to get a digital signal that I could use for internet access and ever since then it has been doing this.

Any suggestions on how I can fix it?

Thanks,

Cool Cat

1) Hard reset and reinstall everything except for Saved Preferences and Unsaved Preferences?
2) What firmware does your 7135 have (Phone Info app, Software section)?

There's a hard way and an easy way to fix this -

Hard way:
-In phone mode, dial 111111, scroll down to "Options", and press "OK". This should take you to the options list.

-Select "Programming" and press "OK". Enter the code for your phone. I have an early model Alltel, so the code is 000000. This will take you to the Service Programming screen.

- Tap on the "More" button on the bottom of the screen. This will take you to the main settings.

-On the top right of the screen, change the category from "Main" to "System".

-In the Preferred Serving System pulldown, change it from "No Roaming" to "Automatic"

-Tap the "Save & Exit" Button on the bottom of the screen.

-Do the dance of joy! You're done!

Easy way (Actually, might be harder depending on your provider):
-Take your phone to your local wireless provider and whine and complain about it always going into "No Roaming" mode after you turn your phone off and on again.

-Whine and complain some more until the salesperson calls store's Uber-Geek to make the above setting change for you. The Uber-Geek might come out sooner if you show the password screen when you go into programming mode, as described above, and tell the salesperson that the setting that you need to change is in there. I don't recommend trying to go into programming mode in front of a salesperson unless they tell you that they can't do anything about it lots of times, though. You might scare away the salesperson!

-Walk out of the store a happy (and or frustrated) customer.

Tip- you may have to try the "easy way" if you don't know the passcode to go into programming mode.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the help. Here's a bit of weirdness though... When I hit the "More..." button it gives me an error that says that the Directory number must be exactly 10 digits. There is no Directory number on the line where there is supposed to be one. Also, the phone number line shows my number as 000559XXXX (X's used to hide my real number). There's no area code.

Can you give me any help with that?

Thanks!

Sure. You made me a fine adaptor so...
Enter your 10-digit phone number for your directory number.
Phone# == Directory# == CDMA# == AMPS#
should work for you.

Just as a clarification, the phone # vs. directory # may not always be the same. If you port your phone number, your phone number may not be the actual number of your phone. The way mine is set, I have a number for that phone number field that is not my phone number, but the directory number is my actual phone number. This is only true if you have a ported number I believe, so disregard this otherwise.

I think I figured out the weirdness. At the time of my last post my phone had once again un-programmed itself, unbeknownst to me. Once I reprogrammed it again (for the 5th time in as many days) my phone number showed up in both the Phone Number and Directory Number lines. I then went in and changed the setting to "Automatic" and saved it. Now I just really need to figure out why my phone keeps unprogramming itself.

Later,

Cool Cat
