I have just received my 3rd replacement phone in less than 3 weeks and am so disappointed. A 6035 user for years, I was thrilled to find the color screen and extra bells and whistles. However, the phone fades in and out, mostly does not connect when I make a call, drops calls frequently even in areas where I know I have a clear signal, and frequently freezes so that my callee can hear me but I cannot hear him/her. Both Verizon and Kyocera admit they have had problems with the phone, although they both initially denied any problems. While Kyocera is good at assisting, it takes so long to get through to a technician that I become frustrated. Has anyone else suffered to this degree?
I have had my phone since April 2003 and I have had excellent phone reception and call clarity. I usually have digital service, but occasionally have hit pockets where the phone has switched into analog. Still works fine.
I live in northeastern PA. Maybe you could name the geographic area where you are using the phone and then see if another person on the forum has had similar problems from your area.
I have only had one absolute phone lockup, but I used Backup Buddy VFS to restore everything (I was traveling and away from my computer). It really surprises me to hear of the problems you are experiencing and the fact that you have had 3 phones lends me to believe it is a coverage or Verizon problem, not the phone itself.
I've had mine since Mardi Gras last year (early March, if the brain cells still function) and except for the Caller ID bug, just a hiccup here and there...
I'm on #6. I got my first April 14, 2003. Only one replacement was my fault. (fell while hugging a chick in the cinema parking lot, had just got it the day before too, damn!!) I haven't seen smartphone that can replace it yet. Over the year or so the stability has gotten better. I've found that it works fine after it has had a hard reset or 2. Of course this is very painful so Backupbuddy is a lifesaver. I probably would have given up on it long ago if not for BackupBuddy.
I still love it. I think my girlfriend is jealous. She hates it. Competes with her for attention, I guess. Never have I had signal problems though. Sorry to hear. I have traveled all over the Cont. US and Hawaii with very little problem with signal.
I have had my new 7135 for about 3 months now, and so far it has been flawless! I took a trip to visit family in Louisiana, which they live DEEP in the woods, and the house is surrounded by tall trees, and my 7135 was the only cell phone out of 6 that my family had, that got a signal. All of there phones were Motorola, and not the cheap ones.
I use Verizon and had the America's choice plan, and they have Cingular. I was using there local cell tower site, and received a signal although a low one, and it was digital! If I forced it to analog mode, I got two bars, but scratchy service, but I could make and receive calls in both digital and analog modes and they could not use their cell phones at all, until they got to the highway then they received a signal.
I was so proud!!! They were so jealous, and of course I did not rub it in, I would NEVER do that....
No crashes, freeze up's malfunctions of any kind...so far!
what you need to do is call your insurance and have them replace the phone. I have similar problems with 6035 that I gave my husband and they replace the phone without problems.
I've had mine for about 4 months now. I'm on my third due to Verizons inability to flash upgrade one and a loose hinge on the second. The only problems I've had with the phone are self imposed. I like to tinker around and add new software when something looks like it might help. I would never have any problems if I stuck with the basic applications and played only 128bit mp3, but I like to make it work for me.
If you've never owned a Palm OS device you may be shocked at how easy it is to CRASH the unit with new software or hacks. I think that this surprises many folks and frustrates them to boot.
Your signal problem is something that I havent run across. I'm thinking that your problem is more with Verizon than Kyocera. This year I received SMS messages from a 12,000 foot trail in the Rocky Mountains with my Kyo, but no calls, I couldnt figure that one out either ( the signal was ZERO).
I'm on my 2nd 7135. The first one was an original Alltel bought within weeks of when they first went on the market. It lasted me til Spring 2004 when it succumbed to the "service required" bug. I have had no problems with its replacement, even though I push my phone pretty hard. If you're having reception trouble with an out-of-the-box unhacked new 7135 I'd say blame Verizon not Kyocera.
Thanks - both they and Verizon have conveniently passed the blame to the other. I cannot believe the frustration of not having a dependable telephone. The PDA works like a charm, but the phone is a nightmare.
