I am a Verizon user. You can use any inbound SMTP that you like, but outbound is a problem unless you use a "universal" outbound SMTP. www.smarthome.com allows for a free outbound SMTP account that works perfectly on Verizon.
The problem has to do with "relaying" that most ISPs block to prevent SPAM.
Smarthome sells products for the home/electronics,etc. I'm familiar with this company.
I'm confused about the suggestion for use of their outbound server?
I tried setting up Snappermail as described and get the following message when trying to send mail:
Authorizing SMTP
Incompatible SMTP server(SMTP responded not ok) Failed to authorize to SMTP server on account home. Server replied 503 already authenticated.
boy, did I screw that one up. really sorry about that. guess that is what I get for copy/paste and editting the wrong line and reviewing before subitting.
Still not getting through.
Did you change any of the default settings in the rest of the program?
The smtp still seems to be a problem.
I changed the settings as in the last reply.
Thanks!
I just went through the settings.
It received my mail through my comcast act.
It just doesn't send mail. Incompatible SMTP server.
I use:
smtp.comcast.net
my username that is before: @comcast.net
My password for the act.
Thank you for your help!
Doesn't seem as if it is going to work.
I doubt if comcast would be of any help?
You can only send e-mail using your Verizon account. Verizon (and most other ISP's) will not "relay" messages to another ISP. This is to prevent spam and other malicious uses of e-mail.
You need to setup Snapper to: Compose new mesages with: Verizon. (This is under Edit Accounts). This defaults to your accounts in alphabetical order. Sinc Comcast comes before Verizon
it is likely that it has defaulted to Comcast instead of Verizon.
If you set this to Comcast, you'll get the error message you quoted.
Make sure you set the Receive Mail from (checklist) to whatever and as many accounts you want to receive mail from.
You can only send e-mail through Verizon Net, though.
I don't know about Comcast, but I successfully use SnapperMail with my pop3 e.mail account provided through SBC Yahoo! DSL service. If anyone wants help with those settings, let me know.
I have tried to set-up the new snappermail beta with my kyocera 7135 phone, verizon wireless service and my comcast account.
I have had no luck, have searched the forums here and am ready to give it up.
I can not get it to send and receive correctly.
Does it just not work with this combination of companies/services?
I've been using this combo since snappermail came out with no problems. As indicated in other responses, set the following:
Incoming mail (POP3): mail.comcast.net
Outgoing mail (SMTP): smtp.comcast.net
Username: put in ONLY the part before @comcast.net
Password: make sure you enter in both Incoming & outgoing sections
In "Edit Accounts" make sure you've selected "Compose new messages with: Comcast"
I ran into the same problem. I was able to send e-mail using Snappermail & my Comcast account for over a year when it stopped working in March. After several calls to Comcast, I was told that I was never supposed to be able to relay mail through Comcast. According to a Comcast rep. Comcast had been going through the system and closing off "holes" where it was being allowed. I set up my Snappermail to use VZW and it has worked fine that way. I have no idea whether what Comcast told me was true, but the bottom line was that I was no longer able to send e-mail through the 7135 using Comcast.
