Oh NO! Daily Crashes....resolved

Yesterday, out of the blue I started having one crash right after another. The only except was that I could receive and make calls without any reset. But the Palm side was crash, reset, crash, reset. I would get as far as the launcher and then when I accessed any of the tabs (using launcher X) CRASH!!!.

I had not made any modifications to the system in weeks and had no major history of any kind on this phone. I started with the battery, thinking that maybe it was going bad. No such luck, more crashes. I was begining to think that I would have to start from scratch and hard reset the phone, maybe one of the preferences was bad, I'm not running any hacks.

BUT - then I tought - maybe it's having a problem with accessing the SD card. I popped it out, cleaned the contacts, put it back in and - WALA - no more problems!

That's very interesting. I have 2 questions that would help me understand the solution.

1st, were you actually running or attempting to run a program (or access data) from your SD card?

2nd, which contacts did you clean, - the ones on the card or inside the phone?

1st - I have a 256 k SD card with a lot of programs and data files on it. I'm running Launcher X which accesses the card for file information so when my phone crashed, I would reboot and then run the Launcher. If the default tab did not have any card prc listed then I was fine. If I hit a tab that accessed the card then it would crash. So the bottom line here was that I wasn't running a prc from the card but the prc was resident on the card and the launcher was check the card which caused the crashes.

2nd - I cleaned the SD card contacts.

The problem was not dirty contacts, it was more likely a corupted unsaved prefernces file. Clicking the scan button at the top of Launcher X would have solved the issue the same. When you removed and reinserted the SD Card it forced Launcher X to rescan.
