I've been a happy Palm Desktop user with the 7135. All of a sudden, I can't sync with my Mac. Had been working fine. Now won't work. Only thing I can think of that I changed recently is that I installed the new MS Office 2004 (and, I note that MS Office has its own entourage junk and, I suspect it might be trying to muddy the waters here).
Anybody else have any experience with this?
I didn't think Office 2004 had been released yet. With that in mind, if I had to guess, whatever it is you loaded onto your Mac may be causing your problem.
office 04 has indeed been released.
yes, i too, if i had to guess, would implicate it.
my objective now is not so much guessing what might be causing the problem, but fixing it!
And I don't would like to be able to use office 04.
I have tried re-installing Palm Desktop, to no avail.
any other folks out there have experience with this?
thanks much

Hi, Harleyxlc, and thanks for the help.
Yes, I tried removing the palm desktop completely then reinstalling. Regarding the failure: just hangs, no error messages, no messages of any kind. Pushing the sync button does nothing. Could also be a USB contention issue. In the past Mac users have solved this by manually launching "Conduit Manager" and then hitting sync, but that's not working this time.

I am not familar with macs, can you give more details about how it doesn't work now? Do you get an error? What are the symptoms?
Doesnt sound like the Mac OS is the problem, it does sound like your just not getting a connection. Try moving connections, try syncing through the phone as appose to through the cradel button.
Did Office 2004 install Entourage? Did it replace your Palm conduits with Entourage conduits (as Office X does)? If so, this might be a cause of your problems. Also try going to http://www.macfixit.com/ or http://www.macintouch.com/ to see if there are any reports of problems and solutions with Palm sync and the Office 2004 upgrade.
Hi, mrw, and thanks for the follow-up.
Office did install Entourage, but I specifically told it not to mess with the Palm Sync stuff (it had options for this). As for whether Microsoft software does what it's "supposed to", well, ...
Anyhow, I'm still unable to get things completely back to where they were. I did a little more digging and figured out what's going wrong, but I'm still not sure why.
Apparently the "enable hotsync" preference keeps getting shut off. If I open up the Palm-supplied "Hotsync Manager" application, it shows Hotsync as "disabled", even though I never disabled it. If I enable it, and even if I have "enable Hotsync software at startup", that preference doesn't seem to stick. It manages to get shut off. if I do a sync as soon as I manually enable it, that will work, sort of: It seems to sync properly, but then it ungracefully ends with "the application conduit manager has unexpectedly quit". Everything seems to have sync'd, so the crash appears to be happening at the very tail end of the process. But it's still troubling that it's happening. I may indeed need to take this up at one of the Mac-specialized boards that you mentioned. But if anybody else has any ideas, I'd be grateful!
thanks again

I too am having a similar. Mine started shortly after installing MacOS 10.3.3 upgrade. I keep getting "Palm Desktop Busy" & "File Busy" messages. I have upgraded Palm desktop to 4.2.1 (problem was there before this came out / or I was aware it was out). I have un/re-installed Palm software 4 times now & even gone through my drive and manually removed all, palm elements left over after runing the Palm Uninstal. Any ideas would be appricated.
I am using a KEYSPAN 19-HS Serial to usb adapter with OSX 10.3.4. When attaching it to the SERIAL port and then to an Imac USB, I CAN do a hot synch with Palm Desktop 4.2.1
