Firmware upgrade story, part 1
Haven't posted in a while, but have been reading some threads on the newest firmware....
So I went into the nearest VZ store after finding out that they can do the upgrade. I didn't mention that I had an Alltel. I also learned from Robert K's post that I could remove the Alltel sticker (stupid me for not trying that for the year that I had the unit... looks much better now).
They say to come back in 1.5 hours (probably because of the tech's lunchbreak), and I come back to a flashed phone... or so I thought. I found myself staring at the phone banner that still said "ALLTEL". Suspecting a problem, I open the Phone Info app and check the versions... phone version is 44.... so far so good. But PDA is 13 -- it hasn't been touched. So I ask the guy what happened and he says something about an upgrade on their computer systems preventing him from accessing the PDA firmware at the moment. He says to come back the next day. I guess the most annoying part is him not telling me the job was only half done!
Before I got the upgrade I was having the frequent random power-offs and refusals to charge or turn on unless I jumped thru hoops. It seems a bit better now, but I noticed it still shuts itself off and stops charging prematurely.
Nothing else seems to be wrong. But I did notice that in vibe mode, the date still shows in the phone app, instead of "silent mode". This is a great plus! Is this normal with the newest firmware?
Halfway there...
