When I use my 7135 as a modem for my laptop, I use the "True USB Data Cable". It's model number TXDTA10011. They are $39.99 on the Kyocera Wireless Web Shop. Check with user "danscellphones" on this site. He may have some in stock. If he does, I'm sure they will be at a better price.
NOTE: If you have the Stowaway portable keyboard for your 7135, you have to disable the keyboard driver before using the 7135 as a modem. The keyboard driver interferes with modem operation. The driver does not need to be removed ... just disabled. The driver shows up as a program on the Palm side, and there is a checkbox in it to disable it.
I have the express network that verizon claims is 100kb plus. It feels like about 20k. Is this a function of the cable, the settings, or does the service just not deliver?
bandwidth.com routinely reports speeds in the 70s for me with this setup, very acceptable! i dont think its the usb cable that effects this, just make sure you have a high speed data message on your screen,if it says standard data rate then you are connected thru qnc,the older, slower pre express network data service.it depends on how your settings are configured, what username /password you use and if express network is offered in your area.also, this all assumes you are on verizon
Sorry but I am just picking up this thread now. If I buy the cable (which Dan's now has for about $17), can I then get internet access for my laptop? Do I need to sign up for separate service through Verizon or does my standard access work. I would only be using it for e mail so speed is not a big deal.
Yes. No, standard access will work. But, I believe you will find that speed is a big deal when you feel the difference. Some people are able to have the EN taken right out of thier minutes only plan. For me, I pay 44.99 a month for unlimited EN access rather than the bit bucket plans. I use so many minutes that I have not bothered to fight with Verizon Customer Service to hook me up with the right option so it comes straight out of my minutes. Unfortunately, the few stars don't out shine the dumb asses in general customer service product knowledge.
To test, you can go PDA preferences -> network -> service ->Express Network. Try your web or email app. If it works and you do not have a plan, it is probably coming right out of your minutes. Otherwise, I do not think it would work without a plan. I could be wrong, in that case, you could end up with one whopper of a bill!!!!!!
Thanks I will give it a shot. I have Windows XP Pro and when I try to install the driver from the CD it syas that it may not be compatible with XP. IS there a different driver somewhere.

Don't worry about that, install it and use it anyway. It works fine with Win-DOHS eXtra Problems Pro.
Thanks for all of your help. When I set it up it defaulted the modem to COM 1 and does not seem to find it when I try to get out on that line. Do I need to re-direct it to another port? Sorry to be such a pain - I thought this was going to be easy!
Are you using the serial connection or the USB connection? If serial, then try another COM port. If USB, then right-click on the HotSync Manager icon in the system tray. Unselect "Local Serial" and select "Local USB".
Windows XP should auto-recognize the modem. Put the phone in the cradle or plug it into the serial cable, run the FaxModem program, and wait until it says "Read to Send". You should then be able to find it under "Phone and Modem Options" in Control Panel.
I use mine all over the country with EN. Last year on vacation in Hawaii, connected up to our datacenter in San Jose through our VPN, and did quite a bit of work. It claims I get 144 and for the most part it seems true.

There's really something wrong with this statement!!
