I forgot to charge my phone last nite and managed to forget the travel charger today as well. I have turned off the backlight and shut down the phone end... anything else I can shut down? Can I turn the palm end off completely?
I foresee/fear losing.. info, 3rd party software regs, and prefs if the power completely drains.
I thought if you held down the backlight button it turned the palm side off...or was it hold it down for the backlight and just press it to turn off the palm. Either way, I thought you could....

That just puts the Palm to sleep immediately instead of waiting for the off after period -- no more 3 minutes anyway -- to expire. The Palm is always technically on so that it can play alarms, handle the insertion of cards, etc.
I do have backupbuddy... but I thought I read about 3rd party reg codes and certain prefs being lost on hard resets or changing batteries... or something.
Yup, running the 7135 on low battery can lead to some very unpredictable results. I thought I had read in the documentation that closing the flip turns off the Palm side, but I defer to Palmnut on that (given his programing prowess). I have seen some applications that will turn off the Palm side off. I don't know if that is really off or some kind of dormant state similar to having the phone closed.

I can echo that... the Palm OS is never truly off (as all memory is volatile). It simply goes into a sleep mode. I saw a page on the internet explaining this, will have to find again. PalmSource.com should have that sort of technical info if anyone's interested.
As far as backup software, BackupBuddy VFS saves EVERYTHING in memory and I believe most others do the same (although you may have to reset after a full restore since the palm prefs file are in use and often do not refresh properly until a reset.)
If you guys say that the palm side never turns off, what happens after the battery gets taken out?
The first time I took my battery out, I didn't turn off the palm side (or put it into sleep mode). I had to do a full restore from backup. But if I turn the palm side off first, I can take the battery out without loosing data.
So doesn't taking the battery out, without loosing data, confirm that you can turn the thing off?

It sounds similar to your VCR. I turn my VCR off when I am done, but it still keeps time so something is still on. Of course, if I unplug it, then it is REALLY off
I removed the battery for longer than a few minutes and now the color is washed out some. When I reset it I get rich dark colors but not for long. Is there a way to fix this? I have noticed that using the PDA to make notes, do scheduling and all other normal normal stufff, (no games or phone calls), the battery will last a good two days.
Found answer to washed out screen on another topic.
In the phone mode, type 111111 and use the rocker button to scroll down to Options and the contrast can be changed. While typing this message I took my time and opened the phone everyso often and it's working.
I wasn't thinking, I had a Clie and use the contrast a lot. The thing is when I did the hard reset by removing the battery for more than a few minutes it cause the contrast to do something out of the ordinary. I would reset it and see dark colors but then it would revert to the washed out look. Now that I adjusted the contrast it stays that way. Weird.
The Kyocera is known to phase in and out of its contrast settings. May want to try "Contrast Fixer" from Palm gear. Costs about $2.00 and keeps your contrast settings steady.
