7135 Won't dial....

I am so f%$^*&? sick of this phone and Kyocera's inability to resolve the crappy hardware/software issues.

It seems that the dial software function has stopped working on my phone, as the send key cannot initiate a call. In addition, I created an entry in the speed dial list via the address book and I tried to dial using the speed dial 'dial' button and that did not initiate the call either. In both cases, you just see the phone screen with the number on the screen, but the call isn't initiated.

Maybe the chip that performs the calls is broken in some way...

Same thing happened to me a couple days ago. Could not make or receive calls. Like you, I could dial and the numbers show up but the phone did nothing when I pressed send. A soft-reset does not fix it. Had to remove the battery and put it back to get the phone to respond again. Strange.

Only had the phone for 4 days. I really like phone when it functions correctly. I really hope Kyocera frequents this forum and take note of the problems and maybe come up with some explanation as to why these things are happening to our phones other than because there is some bad ap causing bad things to happen or because of operator error.

Here's another problem I've been experiencing frequently:

1) If I scroll fast up and down the Main Phone Menu (Recent Calls, Phone Number, Phone Preferences, etc.), once in a while the phone freezes. I've also noticed that once in a while when doing this fast scrolling, the phone freezes for about 5-10 seconds but then un-freeze and continues to scroll. But most of the time the phone freezes like its caught in an endless loop. The LCD is still on but I could not get any buttons to work. Only a soft reset fixes this. Has anyone experience this?

AS A NOTE: the only third-party software I have loaded on top of the default set is Contrast Fixer, Energy Saver and Afterburner (all from recommendations in this forum). I do think the Contrast Fixer does help to prevent the contrast bug (black screen) because I have not seen this problem since installing these aps.

I had that same problem as well. I turned off the Palm side of the phone, took out the battery, and then put it back in and everything worked fine.

That hasn't happened to me in quite some time, but sometimes it does.

Just a comment, jmstr, Afterburner is a pretty "serious" thrid party app and can have a negative impact on the phone operation...depending on your settings

I've had this same issue for over a year, periodically. The only way I can seem to clear it is to power down the phone and PULL THE BATTERY for a few seconds.

I have all the latest firmware and run very few hacks - nothing that tries to speed up applications.

Thank goodness for Backupbuddy

Regarding Afterburner: I have the free version so I set it at 37 which is the max. I've noticed others have ran it at considably higher speeds. I wanted to speed up the CPU thinking that it might help the scrolling freeze problem by processing key presses faster. I think Afterburner just made it freeze faster.

I noticed that I had not recieved any text messages yet, I get 5 a day. When I went to dial a call I had the same problem that pakirby had. the send key would not send a call...neither would contacts pro.... I made sure my backup was good and did 2 hard resets....the first time the phone still did not dial so I did not do a restore...on the second try it did dial and I did the restore and it is ok now....go figure..

I called verizon

I called Verizon and the guy told me to turn off the phone, then turn it back on again. Everything seemed to work after we did that... Go Figure...

Has anyone ever figured this out? I've had the problem off and one since I got the phone over a year ago. It goes away for months and then all of a sudden I'l get hit with it twice in a 24 hour period.

I have been unable to notice any pattern but this is driving me crazy! I find myself trying to initiate a call every couple of hours just to see if the damn thing is working.

I update my PRL's monthly, at least.

I updated the S/W quite a while ago to:

MZ.1.0.44
SZ 1.0.29

Made no difference............

I sense a Treo 600 in my future.

I had the same problem on mine, I uninstalles all the 3rd party software and VOILA! no problems. Lots of 3rd party stuff is full of bad files and corruption. Krappy but true. Try uninstalling all the 3rd party software and installing them again. Or call Kyocera tech support. Ive had a Treo 600 and that was the biggest waste of $ ive ever seen

The Treo is NOT the magic fix all you might think it is.....

Spend some time on the Treo 600 board.
