Partial Upgrade

Recently my phone with the original software (bought May 2003 with MZ1.0.36 and SZ1.0.23) started to totally drop phone reception periodically giving me a "No Service. Contact Phone Provider" message. This occured right before a business trip and I broke down and took it to a Verizon Store for an upgrade, hoping this would fix the problem.

After waiting about an hour, I went back to the Tech area and the guy was still trying to upgrade the phone. It took the phone upgrade, but would not take the PDA upgrade (maybe because I cleaned out ROM with JackSprat). So now I have MZ1.0.44 and SZ1.0.23. After a couple of days, the phone again dropped signal and I scaled back Afterburner from 49MHz to 44 MHz and things seem to be stable.

Anyone with the same configuration with any problems/recommended fixes/hints? At least I still have the original grafitti.

Some have said that the "partial upgrade" makes the phone unstable, because the two halves (software) are designed to work with each other. I had a 7135 like that, and I kept trying and finally got the Palm half upgraded. Mine was a failure to recognize the phone after upgrading the phone half to '44'

the phone should be hard reset before and after a software upgrade. if the tech wasnt doing that, it may cause this problem.

Same thing happened to me

I'd had my original 7135 since 06/03. Last week, I had the exact same problem--the handset couldn't find a signal, and would give me the same error message. After hours of dealing with phone and in-store Verizon techs, and my own research here and other places, I ended up having a replacement 7135 sent. My "no service" problem started out intermittent, and escalated into complete meltdown.

Thing is, I didn't WANT a replacement, as the device I had was, in my opinion, extremely stable. Certainly more stable than my XP desktops or laptop. Anyway, after a few burps, the replacement is doing fine.
