Hi! I haven't posted for a long time, but read this board frequently for info on my phone.
Anyway, nothing tramautic happened, but this morning, when I tried to power on my phone, it goes through the "powering on" notice, then immediately turns itself off.
After 4-5 tries, it did turn itself on and everything was great until a minute later, the thing turned itself off again. I did a soft reset, then a hard reset, but those didn't seem to help. Now, it only turns on every 10th time I try - otherwise, it starts to boot up (i.e., "Powering On..."), then shuts itself off. I also noticed that it won't charge . . .
you can try the software upgrade first, in fact, thats the best way to handle this. even if you get there and they say you already have the latest, have them reflash it anyway. take note that it takes about 1/2 hr to do it, at the least.
I thought I was dead in the water today. Reading from snappermail when it froze. Soft reset and ---nothing. Black screen.
Couldn't soft reset, couldn't hard reset. Taking out the battery didn't help.
Got Verizon data tech at 866-788-9387 who suggested I try a "crash reset". Sequence as follows:
Take out battery.
Hold reset button 60 seconds.
Replace battery.
Hold backlight and reset button at the same time.
After 5 seconds release backlight.
After 5 more seconds release reset button.
Voila! Back in business! Many, many thanks to all on this forum who keep recommending backups to the card. CardBackup gave me back everything. Backup was 4 days old, however. From now on I have one scheduled every night.
fluke, "crash reset" is something verizon invented that actually doesnt do anything
it probably fixed it cause you took your battery out for 60 seconds
if you ask kyocera they'll tell you that
i had the opertunity to speak to one of the engineers at kyocera and thats what they told me
And when I spoke to a Verizon engineer they told me that it IS a real feature of the phone, but one which is included on Verizon only phones, over the objection of Kyocera who didn't feel it was necessary (Kyo was wrong on that, btw).
sorry but the verzion engineer you spoke to was full of it. verizon didnt design the phone, kyo did. and if verzion somehow did manage to add that feature, it wouldnt be a 7135 anymore as that would require hardware changes. you couldnt put something like that in software. after it all, its still a palm, and this hard reset/soft reset is a palm thing.
Verizon has no power like that over Kyocera. Sorry Plyons, but the crash reset is full of it. When I called Kyocera, they indicated that no such feature has been added to the phone and the same is accomplished by removing the battery for the same period.
If "crash reset" refers to the holding down the reset button for a certain period of time, then it seems this feature does exist, even for Alltel phones. Supposedly this drains the backup battery, so it's more thorough than a standard hard reset (holding the backlight button while resetting).
I had to get my Alltel-branded 7135 replaced very early on (Apr 2003). I called Kyo tech support directly, and the told me to remove the batt and hold the reset button for some number of seconds. I had to call Kyo directly because this was before Verizon released the phone in my area.
