Just a little blog for you guys, and a little encouragement if anyone is thinking about getting one this late in the game.
Recieved my first 7135 in June '03. Used it really, really heavily--phone, snapper, blazer, bebopper, calendar, misc. amusements. Two hard crashes, total, but I was saved by backupbuddy because of the great advice here. Use two SD cards--first one a SANDisk 256MB, and a second 512MB bought two months ago for less money. As a bonus, my Kodak DX6490 (a CR Best Buy) digital camera uses the SD card as well.
No replacement phone until this week. That's right, same phone, only two hard resets, very heavy usage. Extremely stable device in this market segment.
Unfortunately, my "right arm" as my colleagues called it, stopped working ON THE PHONE SIDE (nothing to do with the palm side or hard crashes--it simply couldn't find a signal, even in the Verizon store next to the Verizon tower).
I REALLY didn't want a replacement b/c my original was so stable (didn't want a bad unit like some others have had), but there it sits in its cradle. Replacing was a little buggy (some old hacks and programs I deleted long ago were, for some reason, re-installed at the initial sync), but that's all passed within two days.
I keep a fairly close eye on the market, and I STILL think, after the delayed release, the battery problem, the bugs others have had, and over a year on the market, this is the best converged device on the market. By far. Something will be better, faster, stronger (like my childhood hero the $6M man--why hasn't anyone made a feature movie out of THAT?), but amazingly, after a year on the market, nothing is yet.
Wish me luck with the new one. I hope it lives up to the precedent set by its predecessor.
I have had the same experience. Very stable phone with lots of apps, usage, messing with it, etc. I had to get one replacement because I messed it up with JackSprat and trying to restore the original image.
Right now I am waiting to receive an i700 from someone here. I am only changing because I get ansy to change and would like to try PPC for a while. I have had a very good experience with the 7135.

If you were restoring from the SD card a common oversight when deleting things is to forget to delete them from the backup.
And in this market it's amazing that something is not outdated more than a year after release.
just an fyi here, nothing to do with the phone, but... figured i'm make your day http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0385235/
yes, thats right, they ARE making a six million dollar man movie, staring Jim Carey of all people.
Well at least its not staring Van Damme, or Stalone!
Hey Prosmo, Harleyxlc I totaly agree. I too keep constant tabs on the alternatives and there are devices that have better more RAM, faster this, more resolution that, but still nothing that has the whole package that the 7135 has. Mine has been quite stable (only one hard crash) as I approach my one year aniversary. I hope Kyocera keeps this concept alive (as far as the form factor and Palm OS) and updates and improves on this model rather than dumping it for something else.

Depends on how you use it. I use the Palm side more heavily than the phone side and have never had an issue with battery life. And, I do use the Palm side very heavily. I also use the Energy Saver app and charge it nightly.
As always - your mileage may vary.

Battery life is an issue, but is rarely a problem. I have two, and swap them in and out of the cradle, taking the extra with me when I'm out of the office. With an office charger, car charger, and home charger (sans cradle), you're good to go on just about any (US) trip. Biggest sap of battery is phone usage, ESPECIALLY if you're not in a digital area (something I have to keep an eye on in NM (yes, it is a State in the US)). That energy saver plugin would probably be a good investment if you need it, but I haven't.
