Question The curious case of upper case disabling graffiti

How strange. Got my 7135 last week, and all is well. Except...

When I give it the ol' up stroke to switch to upper case, it won't recognize any strokes. After a few seconds, the upper case times out (goes away), and then it's back to normal functioning. During the blackouts, everything else works; buttons on the palm screen, the brightness/contrast/etc. controls, everything - it just won't recognize graffiti strokes.

Any ideas? I've got the latest firmware etc.

Cheers.

Grafitti 2 doesn't us the shift stroke for capitals. Instead, write the letter over the dividing line between letters and numbers.

Hard habit to break, I know. Not as bad as the T, I and V changes.

Yeah, this one got me too. I actually turned my first 7135 in the day after I got it because of this problem and the folks working at Verizon didn't know about the Graffiti 2 change either. It wasn't till I was home playing with the 2nd one that I found an insert they had stuffed into the box explaining G2. If you decide that you can't live with G2, there are alternatives out there such as Jot or Tealscript. Do a search and you'll find lots of opinions on both.

but...but...but...

why the heck does the upstroke still pop up the upper case indicator arrow? Is this just an insidious plot to get otherwise intelligent people to ask dumb questions on bulletin boards?

Thanks for the help.

I think... that it allows you to type characters from the symbol set. Ie. Try doing an upstoke and making a dollar sign (S with a line through it).
I think I can recreate it on mine though I'm still running Graffiti 1 but I have Jot installed, so that's kinda Graffiti2-ish.
