I purchased backup buddy last night... purchased an SD card last night... got the phone today. 1 fatal, 3 soft reboots, and one hard lockup later I'll be returning the phone in the morning.
what crap.
My m500 I've had for over 1 year has never locked up or had a soft or hard reboot.
I'm going back to being a two device man.
I will do this... purchase the moto 720 and the software to sync with outlook. I will sync my palm with outlook on contacts only maybe every other night... then sync with phone. I will still use palm desktop as my main sync partner.
Good luck to everyone who has this phone... I'm NOT going to return a $300 phone only to get a "refurb." Got to be kidding me....
The tehnology is not there yet... the phone simply does not work properly... I would not use it even if free...

I'll keep backup buddy and the sd card for use in my m500... lol

Sorry to hear you've decided to pack it in. When I first got the 7135, I was frustrated with the soft resets, lockups, etc. when all I wanted was a phone that worked and a pda that I could keep my appts. and contacts on. After a few months with it, I use it for things that I never would have imagined I would. Most of the resets that happen are usually due to something I did (new software, etc.) and temporary once I've learned what caused them. In short, I've learned to co-exist with my 7135, but it's a relationship you have to be willing to work at it if you want to enjoy all the device has to offer. Certainly not for everyone.

Well, they replaced my phone with a new one... ok, guess I lied about the "free" part in my original post... Had a couple of hours, syn'ed, etc with no problems. Owner of the store explained I have 15 days to test for free then I can bring back and have my old phone activated.
I also took the advice off the board and deleted a bunch of apps before syn'ing that I never hardly used anyway.
We will see won't we? LOL...
I hope it works, I really like the phone. I'm just less hype about the phone than I was two days ago.

where do I check that? What are the upgrade numbers?
I did notice the boss did a couple more "downloads" than when I first got the phone from the rep.

Preferred Roaming List - keeps track of cell towers used by your network. You should update this on a regular basis.
The other two are the firmware versions for the pda and phone sides of the 7135 and are not updated frequently. You have the latest.

It's truly astounding how many people shoot themselves in the foot by loading a bunch of incompatible third party apps on the phone and then state how the "technology is not there yet". and did you read the initial instructions about removing saved/unsaved preferences before the first hotsync to an existing Palm desktop?
We will see won't we? LOL...
We already have. If you used your palm much you're probably really going to like this.
I hope it works, I really like the phone. I'm just less hype about the phone than I was two days ago.
It does work. I guess if you expected it to be fully customizable with third party apps and owner proof at the same time you might be less hyped about it. By the way, if you do send it back get *anything* other than the 720. It's truly a piece of junk.
---and did you read the initial instructions about removing saved/unsaved preferences before the first hotsync to an existing Palm desktop?---
I did delete the file before loading. I loaded all the apps I had in my PDA before and everything is working fine. Really only documents to go and a chess game. Been playing with the phone for the past couple of hours getting everything setup.
I believe the first phone I had was junk... this one is much better
Just got the internet going to hook into my laptop. works fine... don't like the fact I have to use the docking station, but that is ok. Might be able to purchase another "data cable" but I'll use the docking station when I'm on the road... no biggie.
I will have to adjust my telephone numbers in Palm desktop since I have a lot of numbers in the "notes" section...
so far I like the graffiti 2... a little different, but seems to be better than the old graffiti IMO. I did not know it was different until I tried to make a "t."
Better to make calls since all the numbers are displayed directly from the palm phone book... I did not even reconize this until a little while ago... really nice feature.

Note that you can (I don't think it's a function of a 3rd party app I have) simply highlight any number in a palm app and hit the dial/answer button to call. I think this should work for the numbers you have in your notes. (If not, you may want whatever app/hack that does this on mine).
Yes, you can highlight the numbers... but it works much better when the numbers are in the correct location, then I don't have to use the stylus... simply move down to the number and click on it to call... from what I see I can highlight in any application... I like that as well...

Glad it works for you. I went from 3 devices (m500+cable+phone & a 2-way pager) to one. I like the phone well enough to keep it until something better comes along.
I got a new 1-way pager recently because it is more reliable than text messaging. The pager messages are cc'd to my cell phone so I can still do 2-way messaging and I leave the pager in a desk drawer. I may even unconverge if a decent BT phone arrives at VZW. I'll never go back to cables though.

I must have missed a post. I take it you got another phone. Dialing directly from the address book was a major sellng point for me. and its the first thing I show people when I show them my phone. Yes Quick tapping on phone numbers and URLs to launch the dialer is a native function of the phone also very cool. Theog don't forget to checkout Takephone, it provides a much better way of searching for phone numbers and contacts from the address book.
