I'm about to buy the 7135... I'm worried with all the hard resets and all. The only reason I'm going to buy is because the new phones I was looking out for are doing away with graphitty...
I've done a search of the board but I can't find this particular question answered. I want to carry a small 64 mb SD card and have automatic backups from the phone to the card daily (without having to sync with computer first). For example, if I'm on the road for the weekend, I want the cell to be able to sync with the SD card at (let us say) 6 am automatically.
Next, in the case of a hard reset and all information is gone, I want to be able to get the information off the card and sync into phone and have all the information like no hard reset ever occured.
Am I asking too much or is there software that will do this?
I notice buddy, but it seems you have to sync with computer before auto updates or you can use the lite version but no auto updates.
I called verizon today and they said I could get the phone for $300.00 after two rebates... is that a good price? I have a phone, but not under contract... I pay month to month... I told them I was moving to sprint to use the treo... can get off amazon for 325.00. lady put me on hold and came up with the $300 price for the 7135....
thanks...

Yes, there are several backup packages that allow you to schedule backups. I use Card Backup, which allows up to seven schedules and as many backups as will fit on the card. There are several versions of BackupBuddy. One is free and card only, one is paid for and allows schedules and partial restores and the last one backs up the card to the PC (I think, I do not own this one
with backup buddy am I wrong in that the phone/pda HAS to be hooked to the charger (or synced) before the backup will take place?
Their site is very confusing to say the least... I wonder if that same confusion will not move into the software... lol.
I went to card back up site suggested by harleyxlc and it seems ok... cheaper than backup buddy as well.
All I need is something I don't have to think about. backup buddy it seems to have a lot of features, but I don't want that... I want to set the time once for daily backups and forget about it... until needed.
Given the one at the local verizon store has been on "fatal error" for 4 days (no one knows how to fix), I'm sure I'll need the SD card and backup software... I just want to ensure I'll purchase the right thing...

Yeh, I don't have to have the phone in the charger for the backup to take place. The phone side of the unit doesn't have to be running.
The software will basically wake up the unit to do the backup all on it's own.
I'm not familiar with Card Backup, but harleyxlc has posted very good information in the past.
I'm only familiar with Backup Buddy because I've used it for a number of years in the "unconverged" era.

$300 is a good price for this phone from Verizon. I got mine not long after they came out last year for $299 after a $100 rebate and my NE2 $100 rebate.
I use backup buddy (the free one) which I understand they don't offer anymore. I've not had the need for doing regular unattended backups as I tend to do backups when I have made signifcant changes to my PDA data. I've only had to make use of the backup once and the restore was flawless. As I understand it, With the full version of Backup buddy you should be able to schedule unattended incremental or full backups to the card or the desktop.

I use BackupMan. Very quick and simple to use. It allows daily or hourly backups (mine run at 2 AM every day). You can restore an entire backup or individual files. It will even copy itself to the card so you can run the restore easily. It has already saved me once. My son got to my phone and did something that was causing fatel errors. Did a hard reset, and restored from the card. Got everything back, like nothing had happened. For US$10 it's a great bargin for some peace of mind.
I think the confusion with backup buddy is that they offer at least two different products. One backs up to the SD card, I think it's called VFS. The other backs up to your PC (as a better hotsync).
One of these products is absolutely necessary for the 7135, since the Palm hotsync software does not backup Kyocera specific files like; call history, Voice dialing etc... So that's why they make a PC version. I'd get the VFS version to backup to the SD card.

Are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure the "system" conduit backs up all that stuff. Or at least that's what it says on my screen when the hotsync manager is almost through.
To tend toward or approach an intersecting point: lines that converge.
To come together from different directions; meet: The avenues converge at a central square.
To tend toward or achieve union or a common conclusion or result: In time, our views and our efforts converged.

A nicer way of saying "Junior Member".
