I'm taking the 7135 for the 15 day test drive....and I gotta say I'm hooked! Has anyone using this phone figured out voice dialing using the headset and the "wakeup" voice command to dial a number. It will successfully dial a voice name by pressing the green "PHONE" key first, waitiing for the beep and saying the voice name, but I cannot get the phoe to recognize the "Wake-Up" command, so a name can be dialed without opening the phone. It will answer an incoming call when "Yes" is spoken?
Thanks,
Robert H
Your phone needs to be attached to car speaker for this to work. Unfortunately, just having your headset attached doesn't work.
When you are attached to the car speaker, you can say "Wake Up, Wake Up" and the name of your voice dial person and it should work. (yes, wake up twice)
The reference guide that came with the phone(CD)has no mention or *(attention) that a car kit/speaker needs to be connected for this feature(voice dialing) to work. Therefore I actually believe no car kit needs to be connected seeing that if a headset is plug in and an incoming call comes in, the voice prompt asks "Incoming call. Answer?" and that works fine.
I'm now wondering if I may be using the wrong(generic) headset. It is from my Nextel unit and does not have the "One touch Send/End" button that is advertised for the Kyocera headset(TXCKT10024Q). I'll try this next. I'm trying to avoid the psuedo "Car Kit".
to "wake up" voice dial you must have a compatible headset AND the phone connected to a power source (ie cradle charger, travel charger or car charger)
say wake up and the phone beeps once, say wake up and the phone beeps again allowing you to say a name to make a call
be cautioned that if you are in a noisy place you may not hear the first beep or the phone will not recognize your request to wake up
further, if you leave the headset in and place the phone in the cradle, say at work, it will sometimes make calls on its own
if the phone is not connected to a power source you can still voice dial by pushing the green button or the button on a compatible headset
I use this all the time in the car. Yes, you need to be connected to power and a headset.
As a matter of fact I drive carpool with a bunch of kids in the morning. So I am talking quite a bit while connected. It's amazing how often the phone thinks I've said "wake up". I've always wanted to make a list of what else will get it started. I think I noticed today that "Come on" sometimes works.

When you program the command words in Voice dialing, you can use any word or phrase instead of "wake up". ( I use the phrase "Hello... Operator?".) I think its inportant to choose a phrase that is audibly unique... and easy to remember.
Please connect me to...
Look up a number...
Yo... phonebook lady...
Miss Johnson... Miss Johnson ... could you call "so and so"
Nee How Ma... (chinese for Hello?)
Playing around after all this great feedback, finally got it to work.... in the cradle, speakerphone on(at first, then turned off), headset plugged in, flip open & closed(worked both ways)!
Only problem, I spend more time on the phone in the car....getting out for appointments.....then back in. Seams that hooking and unhooking the power cord could defeat the whole simplicity of voice dialing? And it seems that external power is a necessity for voice dialing.
By the way, I started a conversation with my wife….. “Hey honey” just now with the headset in my ear, and the 7135 just beeped like it wanted to voice dial.
“Wake Up” = “Hey honey”? I think I'll try re-training.....maybe with a different command.
some people say that the voice dial and wakeup command work only with the car kit attachedand some swear that it works without it just having speakerphone enabled.....anyone know the truth on this ....
For voice dialing:
- define and train telephone tags in Voice Dial > Voice Book
- train Yes/No control words in Voice Dial > Control Words
For answering incoming call with Yes/No:
- use headset or car kit
- enable Phone Preferences > Voice Dialing > Voice Answer
- train Yes/No control words in Phone Preferences > Voice Dialing > Voice training > Control Words
For Wake Up command:
- use external power and headset or use car kit
- enable Phone Preferences > Voice Dialing > Voice Wakup
- train WakeUp/Yes/No control words in Phone Preferences > Voice Dialing > Voice training > Control Words
I've always preferred a headset with a call button to the verbal "wakeup" command. First you have to say "wakeup" twice to get to the "say a name" command. Secondly, if you have a passenger in the car with you, it always seems rather odd to be yelling "wakeup" twice while you are driving. The call button on the headset is much more civilized!
Why will the phone not work on voice command if it is not on the craddle or car charger? This makes no sense to me? what if I don't need to charge my phone in the car or if I forgot my car charger or my cigarette lighter is damaged? The voice command should work but I tried it and it does not. I can receive incoming call answer but I can't give it a voice command? That is so wierd!

It needs to be pluged into a power source becuase it is a huge power drain for the phone to contstanctly monitor and "listen" for the voice commands. Since it doesn't understand when someone is talking it has to copare any and all sounds it picks up
Thanks - it is so simple and logical. But you think that Kyocera would have known this would be an issue and tried to find a solution. Does Treo 600 have the same issue?

The Treo 600 doesn't even have voice dialing, so count your blessings!
