Every time I HotSync all the information in my speed dial is lost (except for *86 in position 1). I’m using a third party program (FNIS Agent 2000) and have conduits for both the date book and address book. Anyone know why this is happening? Can I copy the file to a card and just drop it back in after a HotSync? Thanks.
I believe some other conduits (like Act) will lose the speed dials. Try syncing witht he origianl conduits (or the Outlook one included if you can) and see if they stay. That would confirm tha cause....don't think there is an answer...
I would check your backup directory and make sure that kwc_SpeedDialDB.pdb is not marked read-only (in fact, try deleting it from the backup directory and hotsynching).

Ummm, wasn't there something about this happening with 3rd party address books? Something like the speed dials and voice dials contain *pointers* to the address book entries. When you hotsync they move stuff around or something if they don't use the built-in databases...? or was that only for restore after hard resets?
Two suggestions
I synch to a third party PIM called Ecco. If I set my conduit for my addressbook to desktop overwrites the palm them I will loose my speeddials.
Secondly you should always check your backup directory and your install directory to ensure that no files are marked read only.
Hope this helps/
Thanks for the ideas. Spent several hours with tech support from both Kyocera and FNIS and they both say it's a problem with the other companies software and don't have a solution.
In the interim while you're searching for a long term solution, some users have opted to just create additional palm entries for the speed dial numbers (Depending on how many and how often you change your speed dial numbers) - not a great long term answer, but eases the pain......
I had a similar problem, sporadically. I'll tell you what I deduced the cause to be, although there is no confirmation of this.
I was synching to two computers and, for other reasons that have mysteriously ceased, was having random contacts spontaneously disappear. As a preventive measure, I took to copying my Outlook Contacts to other folders periodically. Sometimes I would accidentally MOVE the contacts rather than copy them. When that happened I would copy them back to the original Outlook folder. That's when I would lose my Speed Dial. Backups of the Speed Dial database from my SD card didn't help.
I deduced that the contacts have some sort of unique identifying code and that Speed Dial references this code. Therefore, when contacts on the desktop were substantially changed (in this case moved and replaced/copied) this unique coding was changed and when Speed Dial looked for the specific contact/reference, it wasn't found.
I'd look at what's happening to your contacts on the desktop. You might consider going with the default software for synching contacts or another software product than what you are using. My guess is that something is altering your contacts just enough that Speed Dial can't find the reference it's looking for.
