palm address book utility

I have a HUGE address book, that I basically imported from my old Nokia and PALM into the 7135.

It's all not too bad, but now I find that being from Australia, the phone has issues with being on the bottom end of the world - maybe something about being upside down, I don't know...

Anyway, the kyocera will not recognise a call or an SMS that comes in when I have it stored in the db in the Australian format. I need to preappend 61 to all my phone numbers (then it appears to be happy and tell me who it is etc etc)

The problem is I have 100's of entries, I'm talking far too many to go playing with the palm desktop software - it would be simply too painful!

So does anyone out there know of a utility that will quickly edit phone numbers, within the palm format???

What I want to do is take out spaces in entries AND create second entries for mobiles (anything that starts with 04) For mobiles, I need two entries, one with 04xxxxxxxx so that I can call them, and one with 614xxxxxxxx so that caller id works!!!

If anyone has a better solution, I'm all ears - HEEEEELP!!!!

On the desktop, export to CSL or whatever, then edit, and re-import.

I totally agree.... export the addresses to excel or a similar format, insert the stuff you need, then import back to the address book....

It is possible to use the Phone Prefs to automatically pre-append the area code to all outgoing calls.

I'm not sure if this helps, or if this has any effect on incoming calls...

if prepending in excel or whatever would be too tedious to do to your exported file, there are UNIX utilities (awk) that can do the task quickly. If you're not a UNIX geek, or don't have one handy, I'd be glad to convert the file for you. Send me a private message.

Yes doug, thinking about it, it is something grep will do without blinking an eye. I'll take it to work today and do just that. I never have that a thought. Thanks

Doesn't TAKEphONE translate your numbers based on country and area code?

Under the "Telephony" section in "Preferences"

Just a thought...
