So, as I posted about 5 weeks ago, I sent in my Kyo 7135 to be sent for repairs due to "searching for signal" message. I was told 2-3 weeks, but eh delays happen and I just got it back today. Apparently it's a refurb, since they couldn't repair my old one. Dealer set it up, made a call, it worked. I haven't touched it since noon today(the time I went to pick it up) because I had to charge the battery. turn phone off, charge battery. Now at about 4pm today (havent loaded up any software), I wanted to make a call..to my surprise, it keeps hanging on the "calling..." screen. Okay...let's try the 1x connection. Nooope..."PPP Timeout". Now I was kinda frustrated, since I had the moto 120c as a loaner for 5 weeks with the worst reception I've ever known.
So I do the logical thing, call Bell and ask to check the network, see if anything is wrong. Nothing is wrong, everything checks out okay. They tell me to call the dealer. Called the dealer, who obviously can't do anything but send the phone back. They told me to call Kyocera, who tells me they can't do anything. Told me to call Dealer back. Dealer refers me back to kyo and tell them to deal with it. Kyo then tells me it could be a "hung in the switch" and to call back Bell Mobility. BM does a few tests, and once again everything checks out, and tell me to contact dealer to send it out again (he was very apologetic)
Now...I know the phone is already subsidized by BM and all...but I didn't exactly pay 800$ for a motorola 120c, heh. So now, is there anything I can do? There's no loaners at the dealer on a saturday, and I'm weary of a Mot 120 where I only got around half the calls, since the other half was spent with the phone in analog where it didnt wish to receive calls.
Yeah, I'm gonna hurl or something, it's frustrating

Any ideas?
"searching for signal", "hanging on the 'calling...' screen", "Dealer set it up, made a call, it worked." I gotta ask, did you try driving into town and making a call?
Things just keep getting weirder. I admit the signal in my house and around my house is not the best, but I was always able to palce and receive calls. I started going back to the dealer, and on the way i kept trying the phone to call my house. After about 250 metres (I was looking a the odometer, heheh) i could place a call no problem. Went around abit, and I could place them no problem everywhere as well. I got back into my neck of the woods, and my phone fell into analog, I was able to make a call, hung up. My phone went back into 1x and I havent been able to place a call since then.
Which got me thinking it might be a tower problem. I just called CS who told me there's been no outages and to bring my phone back...but I'm debating wether I should or not, considering it's able to place calls everywhere but this area, even though it gets about 3 out of 4 bars of reception and around -85db (I think..first time poking around the field debug menu)
I just called my house and forced my phone into analog only, and it worked (had a small delay of about 6-7 seconds)...put it back into digital, can't call, and forcing it back into analog only, I can receive calls
So, would it do any good to bring it back to the dealer, or hope it is a tower problem?

Well... it sure doesn't sound like a phone problem.
1) Do you normally have the phone set to "automatic"? It should automatically switch to analog when it doesn't detect a digital signal.
2) You said your provider was Bell? Bell Mobility? Verizon Wireless has Over The Air (OTA) "programming" to update the Preferred Roaming List (PRL). Does Bell have that? Have you done that (need to be in a fairly good reception area)? That could help.
The fact that you seem to get a good digital signal but can't make a call sounds a bit weird. The fact that you can receive (and make?) calls when you force it to analog means that the phone may be registered and is working properly as far as that goes.
Try this. Force it to analog and dial *611. Is it Bell's customer service that you connect to? or maybe a roaming partner.
Try dialing *611 when in digital mode. If you connect is it Bell?
It seems that you are getting a good signal that you aren't able to make a call on... It may not be your provider's signal which may be weaker. This shouldn't happen and should be prevented by the PRL.
I live RIGHT ON THE EDGE of reception for my area, 1 mile out the door, south, north east and I am golden. (the are no roads west- that would be over a river that I have to travel more than a mile to go over) in the yard, I can make calls/get calls 90% of the time, in the house, I can get a marginal signal, no good for voice or data, maybe enough to recognize the voice of who is calling. I usually hear it ring.
My solution? I have a voicedials set for call forwarding to the house. I do this in my driveway dismounting from my vehicle. I just say "i'm home" and it speedials call forwarding.. out the door? "I'm out" and it speedials cancel call forwarding.. while I'm home my cell chirps then passes the call to my home phone, the chirp lets me know what # they called, Verizon still passes on the caller ID data to my home phones, and it does not count against airtime.
if I'm out, and I forget, that first ring reminds me to shut it off (hasn't happened yet)
