Alltel vs Verizon for 7135?

Is dealing with Alltel any better than dealing with VW for the 7135? Seeing as they are selling the 7135 again and who knows when VW will offer it again...

I have never dealt with Verizon, so I can't give you a comparison. But all my accounts are with Alltel, and I have always found them great to deal with. Good service, good plans. I actually didn't buy my 7135 direct from Alltel, but they activated it with no problem and have never hesitated to give me help with it when I've neded it.

Alltel vs. Verizon

I'll chime in here too for Alltel. Everyone I've never had any issues w/Alltel other than when I moved out to Phoenix from Tampa, Phoenix said they don't offer insurance for the 7135, BUT the rep changed my contract from a 2 year to a 1 year to compensate for it. I've never had any billing issues with them, and they're typically easy to deal with in my experience. Their local stores here in the Phoenix area are pretty bad as far as how long you have to wait for help, and just like any other in-person "tech support", you'll probably have to know more about your phone than the "tech" does, but that's no different than a computer, TV, cable box, and even cars sometimes (in my case anyway!). I like Alltel, and I plan on staying w/them even after my contract is up this April.
Keep in mind, there are going to be pros and cons with EVERY company you deal with.
I should say that I've never had Verizon, though.

i had Alltel and switched to VZW. Alltel does sell but does not support the 7135 (at least in Phx) and will do nothing more than flash it (if you can even find a tech who knows how). if it breaks they make you send it to kyocera. they will also not offer insurance on it which i found to be a real bummer.
as for service Alltel wasnt bad, but i got tired of seeing searching on my phone while inside large buildings just as a person walked past gabbing on a verizon phone.
just my opinion.

My experience with Alltel has been quite different here (Greensboro, NC). I don't experience dropouts or connection problems. As for the 7135, the Alltel rep that helped me was actually quite knowledgeable about the phone. And, on a couple of occasions when I have taken it in to an Alltel retail store with a concern, they have made a real effort to help. Once, the Alltel salesperson actually called and spent time on the phone with a Kyocera tech trying to get an answer for me.

Alltel vs Verizon

Ditto on the help from the Alltel tech I've had. I'm convinced that NO tech (verizon, alltel, or otherwise) will know more that we (on this board) do. That's just a fact, in my opinion. The Alltel tech spent 35 minutes with me...just me...trying to help me out when I was having the crashing trouble (which, by the way was the first issue I had in almost a year of ownership). He called Kyo tech support and spent 10 minutes on the phone with them, etc. I'm not saying he knew exactly what he was doing, but HE TRIED. I didn't get the "...sorry, you'll have to call Kyo..." line until he exhausted everything he thought he could. In the end I DID have to send it to Kyo and they replaced it immediately, but not until AFTER he tried everything he could to get it back up and running correctly. As far as having to send the 7135 back to Kyo instead of Alltel just replacing it themselves, that is an agreement between Alltel and Kyo compared w/an agreement between Verizon and Kyo. I'd prefer to have the same type of agreement that Verizon users have, but look where it's gotten you; Verizon has "discontinued" (I know, I know, it's a rumor!) the 7135, quite possibly because it's too expensive for them to just keep replacing the phones themselves and then having to deal w/the manufacturer (Kyo) themselves. I'm sure there more than a few Verizon replacements that were due to operator (owner of 7135) error. In that case, Verizon eats the cost of the phone and has to return or resell a used (not yet refurbished) phone. It's ALWAYS about money, people. As far as coverage goes, I've never had a dropped call in Phoenix (or the Tampa area for that matter) and I make and take calls in buildings in North Phoenix all the time. Of course, I'm sure the larger and more solid a building is, the poorer the reception will be. As a matter of fact, my wife has Sprint, and I have Alltel. I was going to cancel my Alltel phone when the contract was up and just use her Sprint phone until her contract is up next year, but since she's had some dropped calls and gets TONS of unsolicited text messages (Viagra, the body parts enlargement stuff, prescriptions, etc. etc. etc.) each day (she doesn't even know HOW to text message!), we've decided we're going to pay the $175 to break her contract w/SPrint and just stay with Alltel.
