I have a replacement phone coming and assume it'll come with the longer antenna. It is possible to swap out my short one with the longer one? How does one remove the antenna? Screw off? Just yank hard on it?
It is very easy -- I just swapped out my antenna a couple of days ago. But don't jank.
Pull the antenna up, then look down into the phone. You will see a circle with a metal "T" circle in the inside (go ahead and look and you'll see what I mean.)
Then you take a little tool - I used one of those teensy flat screwdrivers for fixing glasses. Slide it down into the "T" and unscrew it. The antenna will unscrew right out. Then you screw in the new one.
The more interesting question (at least interesting to me) is why Kyocera would go to the trouble to replace the original antenna, which no one seemed to complain about, with one that produces poorer signal strength
That's been my experience. I had an old Kyocera that died. The replacement had upgraded firmware, graffiti 2 AND a longer antenna.
I noticed that the reception on the new one was significantly less than on my older model. Almost every call was scratchy, and Iwas using it in the same area as my old phone.
Someone suggested I swap out the antennas, and it seemed to work for me.

Hey its like they say. It's not the size of you antenna that matters. . . . It's possible the older antenna was better tuned to the frequency of the signal. At least that's what I keep telling my wife!

A co-worker is trading in his 7135 for an i600 on Monday, so I commandeered his antenna of the older variety. Definitely makes a difference! Would certainly recommend to anyone who gets an opportunity to switch it!
