Airbridge Outgoing & 7135 in NY area

OK... I've read every thread with "Airbridge" in it so far today, and it seems I am not alone in having difficulty establishing an outgoing connection. Others too have posted they are getting relay errors or other messages trying to setup outgoing.

I'm very confident I've got my settings correct... but it still won't take.

A couple people here have suggested, based on conversations with Verizon, that Airbridge service may be going away. That may be so, but I don't think that is causing the problems I and other users are having. My 6035 worked great just a week ago and, maybe more importantly, there's not a single post in the 6035 forum about any problems with this!

My question is this... does anyone have any more info. from Verizon on the status of the Airbridge mail servers? And, does anyone else in the NY metro area use Airbridge successfully to send email????

I was using Airbridge until about a month ago when it stopped working for me as well. I went with a solution a little different than others I've seen reported. Since my computer at work is left on all the time, I opted to install ArGoSoft's Mail Server (freeware version) on it and use it as the SMTP server for my 7135. The ArGoSoft software allows for SMTP authentication, so I have few worries about anyone besides me using it as a mail relay (being paranoid I still check the logs it generates). Setup was very easy, and I have not had any problems using it as the relay for my 7135 and Snappermail. The software has other features, but I only use it as a mail relay. The best part, it was free!

ArgoSoft

Is it possible they have some sort of setting that is allowing the 6035 users to still have access?

I can't imagine how...

I just used airbridge (in Minnesota) three days ago and it worked just great on my 7135. Hmmm.

My outgoing mail through Airbridge quit working right around the time I upgraded from my 6035 to my 7135. At first I thought it was the phone, but when I tried to send mail using Eudora from my home PC I got the same 'relaying not allowed' message.

I haven't, however, tried sending mail from my 6035 recently...

I've been having issues recently with Airbridge taking a really l o o o n g time to send outgoing mail (even when sent from the airbridge website) so I figured it was worth the small $$$ to set up a Fastmail account. Love it so far!!!

I'm not sure which settings you are looking for, but I can tell you that in the account settings, in "Outgoing Mail>SMTP Server:", I have "mail.airbridge.net" typed in.

As I have tried so many different combinations of things to get this working again (as it did on my 6035), I decided to just delete my account and create a new one. And then I was going to post them here so you could compare, Markito.

This time, lo and behold, it looks like it may have worked. At least it did not give me an error during the send mail dialog and I was able to successfully send a message to myself at Airbridge.net. Of course, the external address I tested with hasn't rec'd anything yet, but that just sounds typical for the service rather than the problem I've been having.

BTW: Markito... .nice to be double-threading with you, as I assume that's you in the EFF thread at AVSForum!
