Yesterday I had an unfortunate experience with my 7135 . . .
As I got out of a van, it somehow came out of my belt clip and hit the ground. (I'm starting to wonder if my belt clip is getting overused, because this seems to be happening more and more frequently. Anyway, that's normally no big deal - I just open it up and it's fine.
Usually just the battery cover pops off, though. This time the battery itself came out.
After sticking the battery back in and checking the Kyo, it was working fine. But I noticed right away my brightness and contrast settings had changed. Further investigation revealed that my memory had been cleaned - all my installed programs were gone, the program groups were all defaults, all my Eudora settings and e-mail were gone, all my contacts, to-do's, memos, etc. were gone - nothing. It was like I'd just turned on the device for the first time.
I haven't synced it in a while, so I've once again learned the hard way the lesson of backups. I can restore a few things from an old sync, but this was still disappointing. I guess I'll go ahead and upgrade the firmware now, though, since everything appears to be gone.
But still, this bothers me. I don't think the battery was out more than ten seconds. Does the battery really have to stay in at all times? Is this really how this thing operates? It seems to me you should be able to change a battery without losing everything.

Just for information, try searching the forum for the battery issue, it has been discussed in detail.
The phone memory that is supposed to hold items when you take the battery out doesn't last long. Some phones seem to last longer than others.
Also, when you put the battery back in, it is important to not "bounce" the contacts in any way. You will want to hold the phone in such a way to avoid doing this.
Lastly, you do not want to remove the battery with the phone on, some including myself actually turn off the palm side, too.
So what happened is normal, although not pleasant.
In addition to syncing more often, you might look into a backup program for the sd card. It can be restored even when you are away from the PC and it is quicker than a full restore from the PC.
Got it, sorry I didn't search first. Did find some helpful info.
So has anyone else noticed their phone coming out of the holster more easily? I wonder if it's getting worn out from use or something. The phone seems to pop out a lot more easily than it used to at times.

I've caught mine in the the seat belt strap getting out of the Jeep. But the battery never came out. So like harleyxlc said, you should never remove the battery with the phone part still on. If you turn the phone off you should have from 30 sec to several minutes to change the battery.
Press the backlight button. I'm sure there is a way through the menus, too, but that is the quickest way. Not everyone agrees that you need to do this in addition to turning off the phone, but why take a chance.
I can turn off the backlight using the backlight button, but I can't find any way to actually turn off the Palm using the Backlight button. Is there some kind of "secret sqiurrel" code that I'm missing???

You turn off the backlight by holding the backlight button down for a bit. To turn the Palm side on/off, you have to quickly press and release the backlight button.
When I press and release my backlight button once quickly, it does nothing that I can see within 30 seconds. When I press and release my backlight button twice quickly, the screen goes blank for about 15 seconds, then I hear a "wake up" beep and the 7135 is back on again.
I'll have to experiment more with this later. I suspect that I may need to take the time to rebuild my 7135 from a hard reset. Thanks for the insight.
I don't have anything running on the Palm side that I would expect to start the Palm back up again, although I left the phone on. Maybe something there restarted the Palm side.
When I press the button quickly, there is no visible reaction within 30 seconds. If I press it quickly twice within 5 seconds, the screen goes black (as expected).
I should probably take the time to rebuild from a hard reset, I just don't have the time for that right now. Things are about three notches past insane now, and seem to be picking up speed rather rapidly!
