Hoping someone can fill me in here. I am missing the point of connecting a stand alone gps with your phone.
I would love to use gps software with the phone and NO add on equipment. But what are the benefits of attaching a gps to my phone as opposed to simply carrying a gps and a phone?
Is it that some gps units do not have extra storage and you would use the 7135's sd card? I currently use a Garmin III and that would be the only benefit I can think of. The gps has wonderful features by itself. If I had coughed up the bucks for the Street Pilot, I would have built in SD!

Please enlighten me.
The advantages for a Garmin III user would be:
1) brighter, color screen
2) Automatic route calculation
3) More detailed/accurate maps
4) Audible turn alarm
Certainly, there is no real advantage over an Street pilot III, but for all but the newest handhelds (Magellen meridian Color with auto-route upgrade, or upcoming Garmin 60C and 60CS), the combination of devices has advantages for auto navigation. I wouldn't (and don't) bother with it in the field, but I do occasionally use my Legend connected to my 7135 in the car using Delorme Street Atlas USA Handheld (now called XmapHH in the latest release, which I don't have yet).
Now that I actually look at mine, it's a GPS V, which includes auto route calculation and audible alarms. But yes, the color screen and more maps would be nice....just not enough for the few times I actually use it.
Got a chance to use the Garmin iQue. Very nice except for the lack of a phone. I hope future smartphone actually include gps functionality.

Thanks for the info, Alan.
Yeah, GPS V is a sweet little machine. I like the full featured handheld combined with the auto-routing and audible alarm on it.
There are a couple of GPS/Phones available in Europe. Garmin has hte NavTalk II and there is at least one from Benefon, but nothing equivelent available in the US. Garmin had licensed CDMA technology from Qualcomm about the same time as they licensed the Palm OS, so I really expected to see a fully converged device from them, but I haven't heard of anything like that coming any time soon.
