A new member here... I've decided to take the plunge and get a 7135 after reading all of the wonderful tidbits of info and help here...
Alas, I live in the frozen wastelands also known as Canada .
Our CDMA carrier up here - Bell Mobility - sells the 7135 but with
MZ 1.0.38
SZ 1.0.24
My question for all you kind users :angel2 out there is this - is this a 'stable enough' version of the firmware -- or should there be a 'higher' version??
I would like to avoid some of the major stability problems and wonder if this is 'close enough' to the 29/44 version I have read about here - or is 24/38 closer to the 'oh, careful!' version?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!!
Also, what is the maximum SC card capacity that the 7135 will recognize?
Is it 256 MB or can 512 MB cards also be used?
Greetings fellow Canadian...(I'm now living in the US but am also from the great white north)
I have 36/23 and my phone is extremely stable. I have lots of software installed (Takephone, Bebopper, SnapperMail, LauncherX, etc, etc.) and have never once had a hard reset.
This may be blasphemy, but I am not sure that all the fuss about firmware is all that important. Maybe the unstable phones are a result of hardware issues...I don't know but my phone is rock solid.
There are more Canuks here than I realized! I'm from out in Saskatchewan, and my 7135 through SaskTel (who get their phones from Bell) is also at 24/38. I have a small spattering of apps, and my phone has been completely stable except for one instance. In that case, I opened my flip and had a fatal exception. On a soft reset it came back up straight into a Fatal Exception 3 times, and then started with the Service Required, Contact Provider message. A hard reset fixed it, and I've had no problems since (well except for a few I have caused myself.)
That being said, I've only had the phone about two months, so I haven't been a long time user yet. I have debated going with the firmware upgrade myself, but haven't rushed into it since it wasn't an immediate need. I also harbour some doubts about the ability of a SaskTel dealer to understand what I want done, and to do it properly.
Also a Canuck here! Mine is also 24 / 38. I've really had no problems with mine except for the brightness/contrast reset thing. The only problem so far is not being able to get a high speed data service when I'm in the US. The 1X is pretty nice in BC!

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I guess I'm so used it happening now, I don't even realize it. It doesn't matter, if I remember what I've read correctly, the new firmware doesn't fix it anyway.
The sd size of the 7135 could in theory hold even more than a gig. I remember once, Markito mentioned he had a buddy with an experimental sd card in the 7135 with no problem.
I got my lock code from the BM dealer...I might try to flash my phone with the new firmware along the line, but not sure if it will interfere with the PRL and etc...

If you have the software (KWPST) to flash the new firmware, the same software lets you read and save the PRL. The problem is finding a current version of the software, and the ROM to flash. It is a licensed program and hard to come by, since Kyocera shuts down any site distributing it.
I have 38/24 on my phone purchased in Windsor Ontario. It has been quite stable since I got it early November with 4 or 5 soft resets and no crashes since then. I checked with the local Bell Mobility store and they told me the phone would have to be sent away for software upgrade and it would take about three weeks. I cannot afford to be without the phone that long so I will wait for an upgrade.
I too have the 38/24 software and have had no issues. I occassionally have had a few locks. Upon reading other people's suspicions I un-installed Avantgo. My phone has never crashed since and works fine. I have various Teal applications, including Tealmovie and Echo, as well as Takephone and Datebk5. I have almost a thousand contacts too.
To the last person posting what software release did they say they wanted to upgrade the phone to?
ihave your exact software 38 24 from bell mobility in toronto since may 03 256meg sd card multi programs on it NO PROBLEMS WITH ANYTHING U WILL LOVE IT ITS GREAT
Greetings from LotusLand. I too have version 38/24 on my Telus 7135 purchased in Vancouver.
My only serious complaint is that I cannot use my Allstream phone card in TAKEphONE because of the number of digits in the stream sent to the network. Apparently the later firmware versions can accomodate digit strings of up to 50 digits rather than the maximum 32 digit strings of 38/24.
I contacted Telus and asked about a firmware upgrade and had no luck at all. They suggested that I contact Kyocera directly and get the firmware upgrades from Kyocera. Has anyone else had better luck with either Telus or Bell Mobility - for that matter has anyone been able to get the firmware updates from Kyocera Canada?
My only other complaint is that Telus will not allow me to access one of their "wireless web" WAP plans on my 7135. They will only let me sign up for the full 1X service. Has anyone else had this problem?
