All stable (or close to it) 7135 owners report here, if this is not a dead horse.

Okay, I like challenges so I am gonna get a 7135 if I can find one at a decent price. I would like all the stable 7135 owners report their experience here. Those that have an idea kinda do not count as I need on hand experiences.

What I am interested in in the readers digest version of:

1. What did the phone do screwy when you got it?
2. What did you do to fix it or make it as stable as it is?
3. If I get a phone, what deletions (things in ROM and all programs if neccasary) will make it most stable? All I want is phone and contact info in my phone, for now. I do not care about MP3 and 3rd party apps, I need/want stability!!
4. Any other info pertaining to stability I may have missed?
5. No silly answers like “never use the Palm and you will be fine”.

Thanks.

Make certain the phone has the latest firmware:

SZ 1.0.29
MZ 1.0.44

I've had my phone since February. First phone was replaced by VZW when it failed to accept software upgrade. I've had the 2nd phone upgraded.

It never was unstable. I use very few 3rd party apps - I think only Launcher X, BeBopper and Big Clock. I have only rarely needed to do resets of any kind.

My primary use of the 7135 is straight-up Palm apps and, of course, the phone. It has been 99.9% reliable for me. I honestly have not had stability issues at all.

Dave already mentioned the MZ/SZ versions... lots of people have reported that their 7135's are more stable with the latest versions.

I use LOTS of 3rd party apps and around a half dozen hacks. I probably have to do 3-4 soft resets a week, which doesn't bother me.

I've had mine since October and I'm a heavy PDA user with significant phone useage as well.

It has not "crashed" in over a month and all my apps are quite stable.

I have over 40meg in medical software on the SD card and 12 meg used in the phone itself.

I did have a few glitches with earlier software and the latest has 'fixed' the problems with one exeption. AvantGo really got me down and when I deleted it I've been stable. I do add 3rd party apps frequently and if they crash, I delete them and don't try to make them work anymore (I did at first). I've not deleted any built in apps but I've not placed many that others mention frequently.

Curently very happy with:
Launcher X
Crash
iSilo
Card Backup
GraffittiAnywhere
WebPro
FileProg
(and many, many other medical progs, write if you're interested...)

I have no hacks or hack manager.

I love the phone and have no significant issues with it (unlike many on the forum) but there do seem to be more stable phones out of the box than others..... Hope this helps!

I am stable and so is my 7135. The phone always has been. Only complaint is shorter than desired battery life.

I am very stable except for Avantgo. I can use Avantgo, but I MUST exit back to the Palm home screen before I close the flip. If I close the flip while Avantgo is running, the 7135 will soft reset 90% of the time and I even had it hard reset (lost all data) once. If I don't make that mistake, it never crashes.

The 7135 is only a few months old and has one of the latest firmware releases. I also have a bunch of PQA and Palm Apps and listen to MP3s.

Hey, dont be knocking the glue!! Glue good...sniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiif....ahhhhhhhhhhh.......ohhhhhhhhhh (cough) yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa....

Yea, it is a dead horse I am sure but it took like 6 hours for me just to see what people said about the phone. I never really concluded as to how many people "for sure" have thier phone stable. I was real curious to actually get all the "SUCSESSFUL" 7135 people together in one post and go over the results.

Sikpuppy;

You want a synopsis of this entire forum so you can be positive you are making the right choice. I will tell you some positive things

You will positively have less than optimal battery life. It may or may not be good enough for the way you use your phone, but it will not be as good as the next person with whom you speak about cell phones will tell you his/her battery life is.

You positively should upgrade to 44/29 if the 7135 does not come so configured.

You positively will get silly answers to your questions because you said don't do it.

Your phone positively will crash if you do not install BackupBuddy on it. It may crash even if you do but at least you can recover your data if it does.

You will positively experience crashes if you choose to use a lot of hacks, test beta apps, or load and unload a large number of apps while trying to find those you like.

If you have a low pain threshold, do not buy this phone. If you want perfect, buy a Mac....Oh yeah, they don't make a convergence device.

If you need to have a bunch of strangers validate the wisdom of you purchase before taking the plunge, don't ask us what we think and then ignore what we advise because it does not fit your preconceived idea that the 7135 is an unwise purchase.

Damn man, how may ways can so many people say they like the phone, are satisfied with their purchase and recommend the phone to others?

This phone is not for everyone, but if you need a versatile pda and phone combo in a rather small footprint with certain well discussed limitations that have been addressed many times on this forum, it is a good choice.

If you need an audio/video studio combined with an intergalactic telecommunications system that will never crash no matter what you do to it then buy something else.

If you don't have time to test different apps to see how well they work together, then you should not purchase this phone. It does take some time to get the configuration right, but once you do it is a delightful product to own.

IMHO

Thanks for the info. Well, I know nothing is set in stone. I am totaly prepared for crashes. If you read my post at the beginning, you will see I said I like a challenge. Besides, who gives a ratts ass if it crashes when you have a backup on the SD card to begin with?? Just reinstall the backup, have a smoke and the f***** thing is ready again, sheesh!!

My main point was how do I make it stable as can get with minimum apps out of the box, and, or, any deleted ones that might needed done? The only people that would know that would be the people that have one, I as of now, do not. I have heard a lot of "I like mine, mines doing okay", but not a lot of "mine is very stable and just fine". These are the ones I am trying to find, if they do so exist.

I want to know what to do BEFORE I get it, not that I expect it to be a walk in the park when I do get it. Of course there will be a lot of trial and error, but I want to install basic apps, have it stable and keep a backup. Once I have the backup, let the overclocking begin!!!!

Thank for all the inputs so far.

stable? well...

I have an original Alltel 7135 bought 12-24-02. My firmware is fully updated.
As for stable, honestly the only time my 7135 has become unstable is when I get greedy for a new program or try some funky hack. (did I just say funky?)
My battery lasts all day with moderate to heavy use of both palm side and phone side.
I do run alot of 3rd party apps also.

The only down time I had so far was due to a transmitter failure which kyocera prompty fixed. So yes it is possible to enjoy this phone.

I have spent the better part of a year now pushing the envelope on what this thing can do just like most people here in this forum. And yes its pretty amazing. for now I think I will just settle in and enjoy what is working fine.

Advise: get it. add what you need, and be satisfied. stay away from beta anything or trials. they always screw mine up.

fyi I run
lots of games
backup buddy ( A MUST HAVE )
docs to go
isilo
aol mail
bebopper
energy saver
data shield
many others

enjoy it!
would I buy another if mine got lost or died? ABSOLUTELY!!!

Oh man is that ever true. My backups go off at 3AM (like everyone elses) but if I don't run BB before I do some late night surfing and playing with newly installed code, it WILL require a hard reset and I will have to restore from my laptop. That is not fun at 11:30 PM before a work day. I run BB and NEVER get a hard reset. Go figure.

Ok I'll take a stab at this dead horse: Mine is very stable and just fine. No really it is.
I'm running the MX36, SZ23. I get maybe two resets a month. Usually a result of letting my battery getting too low or from a few programs that seem to have High memory overheads. Like viewing certain pics in AcidImage or trying to load some graphically intensive web sites with the crappy built in browser. Or when the moon is in theright phase and I try to listen to a mp3 and watch a kinoma movie at the sametime. But if I see the phone is ready to take a dump I can do a reset my self and things are fine and dandy. I feel a reset coming on when I start seeing the icon colors on the phone display looking odd or the equivelent of mouse droppings on the screen. I live with these idiosyncracies because I ususally know what caused them.

Go for it! its is a great phone. Granted the dedicated devices that the 7135 will do a better job at thier tasks. But this think has so many features, bells, whistles and its even useful too.

I've had mine since late Sept. I am running my second phone but the original was stable as is the second. I use both the pda and phone in my training and sales position. I play around with A LOT of 3rd party apps (I can't leave things well enough alone), some are stable than others but that's their fault not the phone.

I have different apps all the time, but I would say ACT, AGENDUS, X Something (Hack control program), TakePhone, about 20-30 games at any given time, 2300 Contacts in the address book, 17 catagory ringers, and whatever else someone suggests on this forum to try out. Oh yeah that doesn't include EBAY, FEDEX and 15 other prc's that I use over the internet for weather and stuff. Usually have about 15-25MB's of mp3's and all my Firestorm 2003 pictures.

PS: The phone was replaced due to heat and smoke damage

I've had mine for about 7 months now, and it has been stable enough, overall. I learned the hard way about a "backup" application, but haven't had any problems since.

I've not updated the firmware, so I guess that I have the "old" less stable setup.

I wouldn't trade my 7135 for anything else currently available. Showing off its capabilities to astounded onlookers is definitely a fun way to pass time....

Mine had been stable the month I had it....

Except when I tried enabling AvantGo Wireless.

That hosed the Network connection, and I had to reset it back to how it was previously.
