Buttone Launcher

Hello all, just looking for some suggestions for a good button launcher. I've tried SingleButtonLaunch and now I'm using EasyLaunch with is a nice hack and I like how it is suppose to work, problem is sometimes it just doesn't work. I'll be in phone mode for example and none of the keys will launch app's, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I've done a search and found some people use HBX but I wanted to make sure I've checked all my options before sinking some money into it. Thanks.

Sci,

I haven't played much with it, but can't you go into PDA preferences and use the buttons assignemnt?

I have this for memo and voice memo (both built in apps, I know) and it works well. One tap of my web key and it goes to the memos, and if I hold it down longer, then release, it records a voice memo. I found that in one of the FAQs early on...

Usually the button launchers let you assign more than one action to each button, sometimes using the screen to let you select from many actions.

I think Button Pro is one, try searching handango.com or palmgear.com.

I am quite happy with HBX. I tried EasyLaunch, and I could never remember what I had programmed on which button. HBX pops up a visual window with the four icons attatched to whichever button you select, so if I remember the first button, any program is just two button presses away. It does have a trial version available, but it is quite crippled which makes it difficult to really evaluate it.

I'm a huge HBX fan myself. I also use McFling, and between those two hacks I can launch apps, and quickly switch between them, very easily!

I've tried some of he button launchers and I ended up taking them off my PDA. Granted I haven't tried HBX but for the few I tried I could never remember how many key presses on which button it would take to get to that certain app. Prehaps my intended use is wrong but I thought they would be a good way to launch a few apps with one hand while driving for example.

So anyway here is what I'm doing now: I found nice little Freeware app called Glauncher at www.freewarepalm.com. It displays 8 apps in a 9x9 grid on the screen, the 9th square is a menu for launching other apps. The menu's squares are big enough that I can easily launch an app with a tap of my finger. So I have Glauncher assigned to one of my Buttons and I can get to any of those apps with two presses of my thumb. Nice for launching Beebooper to listen to a few tunes while driving for example. Added benie, the screen displays the date, time and battery and ram levels.

Think I found something that will work for me. I didn't like those launchers that used the key to cycle through programs, and some of the launchers were overly complicated. Tried and liked TealLauncher, This way I can program apps that will open on a key press or seperate apps on a key and hold press, it supports the OK button on the 7135 so I set it for a press and hold on that key to return to my previous app, its also nice because you can program combination key presses to activate certain functions and silkscreen swipes a variety of results, very customizable. Only gripe is that you can't set the Previous App function to ignore a third party launcher and I'd like to be able to decrease the time I need to press and hold the keys to activate the second function.

Assuming this hack doesn't cause to many problem I'll probably stick with it. I've found that some hacks really increase the frequency of the contrast bug showing its ugly head. Thanks for the suggestions.

I used EasyLaunch for a while. I didn't know that there was a shareware version. The freeware was the only one I knew and it did everything I needed:
EasyLaunch Free

After trying HBX briefly (that demo version was REALLY crippled), I registered it and have been quite happy with it for several months. It is less complicated than EasyLaunch which reminds me of the even more complicated Teallauncher. OTOH, Tealpoint does make solid products, IMO, so you can't go wrong with it.

Thanks for the tip on GLauncher MGuzzy. I tried it today and it's great. I was using QuickKeys but this is better IMHO. BTW, mine shows 11 icons in a 3x4 screen.

Hmmm.

I used Single Button Launcher on my old Palm III and haven't had any problems with it on my 7135.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Button Launch

I use Button Launch 1.4 by Stephen Millman - never had any problems with it and it is very intuitive.:noel :noel
