Not willing to let a stable 7135 I've had for almost a year be, I tried Jack Sprat. I accidently deleted an app in the ROM I wanted so I tried to do a restore. Everything went will until Flash Write was writing to the ROM. I waited for over a half hour and the screen was frozen and not responding. Since the User Guide said it should take three minutes, I (stupidly) hit the reset button. The screen went blank and the 7135 is dead. As soon as I hit the reset, I realized I probably killed the ROM in mid flash. Is there anyway to recover? Is my faithful 7135 dead?

Lnoble -- I did the same thing the second time I used Jack Flash. Fiddled with it instead of letting it do it's thing! Everything was gone. I believe I ended hard synching it just to get power going, then a subsequent hotsynch restored most of my programs and settings with no trouble. I use Backup Buddy, which was a lifesaver. Hopefully you have been backing up. If not, the synch will still restore the programs -- you will "just" lose the latest data (sorry : )
As an aside, I've tried the Jack products and Filez - both have given me little problems. I've not really stuck with either.
I recently came across a program called PowerRUN that I much prefer to the previous two. PowerRUN move programs and apps to my SD that the other two won't. In addition, all programs stay in the main directory, so you can view what you have without switching from Internal to 64. The ones on the SD have a * next to them. I know I've read a bit about PowerRUN in older posts, but if you haven't heard of it you might give it a try.
Perhaps there is a wise one on this site that can help you restore lost data. Good luck to you. On the other hand, you get to play with your palm all weekend! (hee hee)
Unfortunately, nothing seems to work. I can't do a hard reset or even get the screen to come on. I even left the battery out all night to see if draining the backup battery would work. It is still dead. I may have to make my way through the snow to a VZW store to see if I can swap for a refurb or I have to buy a new one. I do use BBVFS and have a complete backup, so I will get everything back once I get a working phone. But it may end up costiing me to get a working phone. Aaargh!

Try doing a hard reset while holding down the backlight key and see if you can get it into flash-update mode. If so, then you will be able to restore the default flash-rom with KWPST.
Well, here is the surprisingly happy ending to my story. I tried everything, including alanb's suggestion. Nothing...the phone was dead. Thinking this was going to cost me at leat $50 dollars for a refurbished phone (at best) or up to $500 for a new phone (depending on how nice VZW wanted to be), I went to my VZW store which has a good service department. I told the tech that my phone was dead and she confirmed it. She checked my account and then went into the store room and came back with a 7135 box, took out a phone and started to program it. I asked what this was going to cost and she said, "Nothing." I said "I assume this is a refurbished phone." She responded, "No, it's new. We don't have refurbished 7135s in stock." Then, with a smile, she added, "I guess I could order you a refurbished phone, if you want one." I said new would do just fine and thanked her.
The only glitch was that when she tested the new phone, the microphone in the receiver was dead. She appologized, got another new phone from the back, and programmed it. On top of that, she took my old battery and gave me the new one out of the box. And the icing on the cake was that in my rush and frustration at myself for trashing my phone, I had left the stylus at home. I said she could just keep the one from the new phone and she shrugged and gave the new one to me. I then restored my pre-Jack Sprat files and apps from my back-up card (yes, I had done a full backup before screwing around) and was better than new.
Other details: I bought my old phone from GetConnected, not VZW, last January and it did not have the VZW logo. I have been a VZW customer for about 5 years, have three phones active and had not used the new every 2 years to get my original 7135.
The new phone is the "B" version, with the 29/44 firmware, longer antenna and slightly raised keys. It also has the VZW logo on front, but, hey, this time I will gladly let them advertise on the front of my phone.
The only other interesting note is that I did not restore my network preferences from the backup because I wanted to see if they had changed anything. However, the phone would not connect to EN. I checked the script (first having to copy the settings) and saw that they were still using "1" in the second string. I changed it to "0" and everything was fine.
So, while I have had some frustrations with VZW in the past, they came through with flying colors. I assume, as with most things VZW, a lot had to do with the tech I got. Nevertheless, I am one very satisfied customer!!

Wonderful ending!
My sister purchased my old GetConnected phone back in April and recently got a swap from VZW as well. She says that her phone looks the same though but with the VZW logo. It might have been refurbished -- don't know for sure.

It's nice to hear of your happy ending Larry. It would have been interesting if you could have arranged a get together with Alan prior to your trip to VZW and let him put his "magic fingers" on the dead phone to see if he could revive it. However, getting a brand new phone is always a very happy ending!
In the event I might ever need similar tech assistance, which VZW store did you visit?

It was the Rockville Verizon store on west side of Rockville Pike, south of the shopping center with Tower Records.
Before going to the store, I tried what alanb suggested and hooked the phone up to KWPST, but I got no reaction no matter what button combinations with resets I tried and the KWPST program helpfully told me there was no phone connected. I suspect there is some way to force a reflashing of the ROM, but I was desparate for a working phone. Anyway, I hit the right store at the right time.
I killed my 7135 doing the 29/44 flash update and they did the same thing - gave me a new phone, no questions asked.
And I too started out with a Altel version 1/6/03 - they replaced the phone twice under warranty before I decided to go with a Palm T3 and bluetooth phone.
CS is why I still have 3 lines on family share plan with VZW and only 1 with ATT (for bluetooth data only). Once I get this Sony T61c and DBA-10 bluetooth adapter working with my Palm T3 and Mac laptop, I can ditch ATT and be happy with 1xRTT speeds for data again...
