Don't know if this will last.....but my contrast has not changed since I did this 24 hours ago!! It use to change about twice a day.

Here is what I did:

I use to adjust the contract with the stylus....

This time I adjusted it with the up/down button. It adjusted to pre-set increments....I picked the contrast level that I liked & then tapped Done.
The adjustment bar is slightly (about 1mm) to the right of the "t" in adjust

For reference I have version 34 phone software & version 19 PDA software.

I have no idea if this will work on other software versions....YMMV...

The problem with the contrast depends of what level of contrast you set.

- If the level is too high, setting it is unstable;
- If it is low, it is correct

... you have to find the right level to adjust it correctly.

It is a bug... and very irksome...
