Being kind of pda naive (all I owned prior to the 7135 was a Palm IIIxe) I don't know a heck of a lot about the resolutions in the pda world. However, I thought that Kyocera advertised this as a high-res device. How is that possible when I everything I read on the forums says that Palm standard 160x160 is low-res? Or, was this considered hi-res when it first came out?

You're entirely correct.

The market refers to anything hi-res in the Palm camp as being anything greater than 160 X 160.

Kyocera's effort to refer to the 7135 as a hi-res device is inaccurate. Their reference is completely marketing hype. It's an effort on their part to hype up the color palette of the device, which is impressive.

But make no mistake, the Kyocera 7135 is a lo-res device in the tech sense.

I had always thought the Hi res claim came from the fact that it was a 160x160 resolution but on a smaller screen. Hence a higher pixels/inch sort of measure than the standard palm. Yeah Yeah its still spin.
