Just a note for using the alarm clock. The phone mode has to be set to ring. If you don't want to be disturbed by a late phone call, you can turn the phone off, as long as it was left in the ring mode.
I tried all these clocks and didn't care too much for them. I settled on ClockPro, over at www.mapletop.com. It has lots of loud sounds, a timer, and a nice feature set. It DOESN'T have skins or such, and it looks a little crude.
Here's what I wanted though. Say you're travelling and its 3am. You want to wake up at 7am. You are currently drunk. This seems to happen to me a lot.
Anyway, once you set the 7am alarm, there's a countdown timer that says "next alarm: 3:59 away" and it counts down. To my foggy mind in this situation, this is a GREAT way to double-check the alarm. I can't tell you how many times I have screwed up the alarm because of time zone changes, picking the wrong "day" for the alarm, or whatever.
If you are interested in "MP3 alarms" then you want BeBopper. It has a simple alarm clock function that plays the MP3s on your playlist in a pleasingly loud volume.
I'm a bit of a loner here. A good clock program was a high priority for me. I wanted a nice display, good audio choices, multiple alarms and dual time zones. I sampled most of the clock programs and finally decided on maClock (produced in Russia). It isn't freeware but I have been very pleased with it and, for me, maClock has been well worth the cost.
I'm kind of split with my clock and my alarm. I got splash clock to go with splash photo and that makes a nice desk clock and displays my pics in a slide show. As for an alarm I have found that I usually need to have a note attached to remeind myself what I'm reminding my self of. So for the alarm I'm using Bug Me. It's a nice fast and easy to use program that allows for hourly to weekly repeats.
