I've got SnapperMail set to use Verizon's SMTP mail.airbridge.net server for my outgoing Email. Over the past 2-3 days, it's been VERY slow. Sending a test Email to my work account doesn't arrive until 3-4 hours later. Used to be within 2 minutes it would get to me. Anyone else experience the same???
Because of the above, I'm looking for a new, free SMTP server. Recommenations???<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
This is a fairly regular occurance on airbridge lately. I recommend http://www.myrealbox.com for a free email box. Also not 100% reliable, but at least when they are down or having problems, they let you know on their web site.

I will look into that service. Novell provides that, right? Unfortunately, I can't check it at work because they block access to Email service sites here.
The other alternative I considered is setting up an SMTP service on one of my own servers (pro'lly my Linux box) at home.

Yes, myrealbox is from Novell. I personally am doing your second choice and running my own server, but I keep myrealbox as a backup in case my DSL goes down at home when I am on the road and need to send mail.

I downloaded the WebPro browser for Palm via the link provided in another thread on this site. No other browser that I have tried on my 7135 was able to create an account for my on www.myrealbox.com. Much to my delight, WebPro was able to do it. I logged into my account on myrealbox, changed my settings to the way I want them, and logged out. Then I set SnapperMail to use smtp.myrealbox.com as my SMTP server, and sent a test message. It worked perfectly, and I got the message at my work account within 1 minute!! Helluva lot better than 3-4 hours wait time from the mail.airbridge.net server for the past few days!! Looks like I'm staying with myrealbox!! Thanks, alanb!!
EDIT: I just received my latest test message via the mail.airbridge.net server. Sent at 11:20 AM, received 1:43 PM. Time = 2 hours, 23 minutes. Gee, that's fast .... NOT!
its been happening with me lately as well, very frustrating!!!! i will be investigating your suggestions alan if this continues, but since i only use snapper/airbridge for email with attatchments while on the road(good old aol at all other times).i am in no hurry
Is there a place at Verizon they mention this service? Airbridge?
I would like to bring it to their attention as a lousy service- maybe thy will fix it?

Your home ISP may have "authenticated" SMTP that you can use from any connection. I have an ATT Global dialup account, and the authenticated server for that is:
asmtp.attglobal.net
You then check the box saying you have to log in, and provide your normal user name and password.
I use that server for all email sent, using four different accounts, from my 7135. Gave up on airbridge a couple months ago.
"You need to use send authentication with myrealbox.com"
Just exactly, how do you do that? POP first? It doesn't work for me...I don't see any option on "send authentication" in the Snapper... Only "POP before send" and "SSL" and "Always trust certificate".
Do you guys know what the error message I am getting from the SoftHome free server mean? They don't respond to my requests...I guess "free" means no support...
Error: 552 Use the MX server....
Is anyone able to send out without using the same POP account ( for verification)? I am still trying to use my Charter for incoming messages(working well) and Softhome or Myrealbox for SMTP outgoing.
How do you deal with the authentication (using Snapper or Eudora)?

Maybe you're using the wrong server in your SMTP setting?

You "deal with" authentication by simply entering the values for your username and password into the appropriate settings fields of each program. If you don't enter anything, then it doesn't use authentication.
