"Smooth Gloss egripsTM are a total of .017" thick and are better for close fitting applications like holsters and docking units. Smooth Gloss Egrips provide the best grip when the surfaces are clean."
I place my order during a time when they were changing styles, so it took a little long.
But the first set I got were the light silver .017 thickness smooth. The package didn't have any instructions on where each piece was intended, but studying the shapes it wasn't too hard.
The package came with a small alcohol wipe to clean the surfaces of any oils, and the application was easy.
The first thing I notices was that even the .017 thickness was too thick to allow the phone back into the holster. I had to take off the sides, put the phone in the holster to mark where to make the cuts.
After that everything worked fine.
I really does make the phone feel more secure in you hand, and when you take the phone out of the holster "one handed", it feels more secure, and less apt slip in your hand.
The version that I've applied is the 3rd generation, and they'r in the process of sending out a set of the 4th generation, which have a dippled surface, and a more secure adhesive.

Hmmm. Does this mean it'll look like a tribble once I take it out of my linty coat pocket?
Seriously, though, since it's a tacky surface, is it easy to clean when it gathers all sorts or lint and dust?
The surface is smooth, and has no tackiness at all. It sort of reminds me of a static cling vinyl label with pressure sensitive adhesive on one side. Sort of like the oil change reminder stickers in the car window.
The egrips would be easy to clean because they're smooth to the touch. But when there is just a little pressure applied, the friction to the surface increases, making it easier to hold.
They have a large label that goes neatly over the battery lid. When you lay the phone on it's back, against a smooth surface like a magazine cover; you can tilt the surface to nearly 45 degrees, and it will not slide off.
I recently got a set of e-grips, which I love ! I only installed the largest one, covering the battery cover (which can still be removed without difficulty). In my car, it's useful, as it allows me to set up my 7135 with the screen at a 45-degree angle, so I can see the screen and use the speakerphone simultaneously.
When I purchased them, I also got additional ones for my radar detector, which also stays put now! No more of those suction-cup outlines on the windshield!
I got 3 sets of these... They were on the eGrips clearance section. $3.33 each. I had to buy 3 since there is a $9.99 minimum order. I just put on the large piece on the battery cover. It holds my phone securely in the car or any other flat surface.
How exactly does this stick on your 7135? I assume the biggest one goes on the battery cover, but what about the others? Anyone try these?
Yup. Not sure why... I think maybe I got a free trial or something a long time ago. The big one goes on the battery cover. The thin ones go on the sides (the ones I got were sculptured for the buttons). Quality was ok... I think that with some abuse they sort of "layered" and started peeling like an onion. They work very well. The downside is that you can't put your phone in anything anymore. Won't fit in the holster. Doesn't really go into or out of a pouch because of the greatly increased friction (that's what they do). I suppose they would be great if you carry your phone without any other sort of covering or holder. Can't remember if there was a problem with the cradle too.
It's one of those things where you see it, think about how you always grip your phone too tightly in fear of dropping it, or don't put it down where you want to for fear of it sliding off and think "I got to get me some of those". You order them, receive them, put them on and think "wow, this is really great" while walking around the kitchen trying various phone stunts. About 5 minutes later the disappointment hits when you prepare to go out the door and it's "now what...".
I use just the one piece that goes on the battery cover, though I have been meaning to add one to the front cover for extra grippability. The phone fits in the cradle, fine. I found that the thin ones that are supposed to go on the edge, just got chewed up and dog-eared too fast.
e-grips have saved me from dropping the phone, dozens of times. Plus, I can reliably set it on my dashboard and download e-mails and know that it won't slip away.
I changed my first e-grip set after 9-10 months, I think. I never use the holster.
My wife and I both got e-grips for our 7135s. Try checking for their clearance prices on the 7135 egrips models. I think we found them there for $3.33, unfortunately after we had already paid full price of about $10 each. Being on clearance is an advantage to having our little orphans....
We really like the egrips. Same as Palmdale, we only put the piece on the battery cover since it still fits in the holster fine this way but the side pieces looked like they would interfere with holster use.
I find that it is a little tighter getting into the sync cradle but isn't a problem - just requires a little more care.
I view it as cheap insurance. It probably helps cut the number of drops in half - I hope it helps my 7135 last long enough to avoid paying another $50 to Assurion for a replacement before I upgrade to the next gadget.
