DateBook and stuff...

Greetings,

I've had my 7135 for three days now and love it! I just found this group and like what I see. SO I thought I would say hi.

Also, I came from using a Treo 90. And I loved what Handspring did with the datebook. Letting you search for first names also. And other cool stuff like that. Any 3rd party stuff out there that will get me more like the Treo/Palm interface with datebook then the Palm.
:BigKnife:

Thanks!

I use Datebk, you will also get votes for Agendus. Never tried searching, but both have trial versions. There are others, but I stay away from ones that do not use the built in address book (yes that is geek fear talking

Takephone will let you search the first name as well. The developer is a member and regular poster here so you will get prompt answers to technical questions.

I use Datebk5 on my 7135, but that's not an address book plugin, although it does let you link appointments and todos with datebook entries. Pretty sweet.

Agendus is probably more oriented toward contact-management, and thus has more of an integration between the addressbook and the datebook, if that is what you are looking for. I just didn't like some of the functionality that they left out.

All three use the builtin datebook or addressbook data, though.

I'm in the process of evaluating Agendas. Datebook5 is my next app to evaluate. So far I like the way I can associate a contact from the addresses in a Todo and then schedule that Todo on the Calendar with Agendas. It works well for the way I track my todos and schedule appts. Does Datebk5 have the ability to pick a contact from the address book to stick in the details of a Todo item as well? I'll figure it out eventually when I load datebk5 but I thought I would ask. Also when I load datebk5 how much does that take over my datebook. in other words will I have trouble getting it off if I decide to not use it?

Datebk5 will simply uninstall from your 7135 if you decide you don't like it. It just draws on the datebook database for its information. I'm not sure if agendus uses the same technique or if it has its own additional database. I would *highly* recommend you at least give a short look at the user's manual when you put it on your phone so that you have an idea of how to use the cooler features of the app. The first time I tried it I was not impressed, but only because I didn't bother to look at the manual. Now I am a happy registered user.

As for linking a todo or appt to a contact, yes. There is a L button at the bottom with a little arrow pointing northeast. If you highlight an appt or todo and hit the L button, it lets you link that item to the contact and inserts the contact information into the appt or todo (this last part may be optional, but it definitely will link). You can keep a phone log with a particular person if you want using the link function.

Also look at Supernames

I am using Supernames. Found it on Palmgear.com

I really like the ability to link address entries together. I can link a customer to his boss or a co-worker, etc and jump between them.

For me, that's a really powerful tool to have.
