7135 Modem no longer works with Windows XP

When I put my 7135 into modem mode my laptop says the 'USB Device not Recognized.' It was working fine earlier and a printer works fine on the same port. I tried to re-install the modem drivers.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Are you talking about the text in the little bubble type window that pops up above the system tray when you plug the 7135 in and activate the Fax/Modem program ??? If so, ignore it. Win-DOHS XP is stupid. I've never tried using my 7135 as a modem for my laptop, but it does that all the time when I plug in my SanDisk Cruzer to read/write my SD card. It still works just fine.

I thought I was the only one..........

I get that same thing occassionally also.

For some unkonown reason, the USB fails to see the 7135.

It happens sometimes when I try to hotsync also.

Usually, if you switch operations, it solves the problem.

That is, if you are trying the modem and you get the USB problem, then try to do a hotsync.

If you are trying to do a hotsync when you get the problem, try to set up the modem.

I've also found a soft reset can get rid of it.

I haven't been able to find any rhyme or reason to it.

Maybe it has to do with the phase of the moon or some other ephemeral unknown universal force.

I've discussed it with Kyocera Technical and Sony, the maker of my computer. Both have come up with the same solution--reload the drivers, but this doesn't solve the problem.

The soft reset seems to be the most consistent fix.

I hope this is of some help, but since I don't have a handle on the problem, all I can suggest is a bunch of hack solutions.

I too have had this happen and I reinstalled drivers and did all the general troubleshooting steps. Restart, turn off PC, reload drivers, did a hotsync (worked), used the cradle USB (no luck), and almost used the cradle serial (to much setup) so I said wait I have not tried restarting the phone/modem. Turned off phone (no luck) then the ultimate reset of the PDA. Works!!! No problem since.

just my 2 cents...

Thanks to all who have replied. When I get home I'll try the suggestions.

I'll first have to get XP to list the 7135 as a valid modem choice. Currently only my built in modem is listed. Hopefully a reboot and an install of the driver will solve this problem.

Best regards,

Andy
